It's a busy tuesday night/Wed morning for me. I look outside because I heard music pounding, and saw a really nice looking BMW. (I think... it had the logo), shiny black and had the spinners on it pull up, followed by a truck that had the music blarring. (The music part is done for).

Out of the BMW steps a decent looking man, well groomed/clean shaven 24 years old, wearing a nice suit. (I'd say Armani if I knew what Armani looked like, but you get the idea).

Along with him is veeeeery hot 22 woman, with a cut dress with all her legs showing. She was wearing diamond earrings.

They proceed to talk to themselves in the store as they get a varity of candy/water/soda/pizzas. Followed by the cheapest bottle of wine we have, which is 2.99. I ask for their ID's and all is well.

They paid for the wine first.

Then they pulled out a food stamp card.

I snapped right there. Two people who are so obviously a better breed in terms of wealth, so blantly abusing the system!!! Hell, it was almost 30 bucks in junk crap. (Cept Water). I told them off. I said words I won't repeat (Which is saying something I belive...). Dude was calm about it, but said in a dipshit voice of his that I have too, because get this.


He's disable.

I don't recall what happened imeddity afterwards, cept after that blank part I found myself putting away the junk food and no customers in the store.


I told my manager about it, and reviewed the tape. It appears that I was really really yelling at him, and other customers left. But no police came, so I don't know. The guy and the girl left in a huff it looked like, and then I found myself putting the stuff away.

I hate people who do that!

My brother was living out of his car for a while (his own fault) and he attempted to get food stamps so that he could buy food. But the people at the office refused to work with him because he didn't have an address.

While he was there, however, he watched some guy pull up in a BMW wearing a suit come in, get a stack of cash (yes, literally a stack of cash) and walk out. And my brother couldn't get them to give him food stamps.

I didn't get any benefits at the gas station. With all the pride and confidence I could muster, I went to the courthouse to attempt to get Badger Care (free/cheap health insurance for low income people). Turns out, my $7 an hour job made me TOO much money a month.......sure, because I was racking in less than $300 paychecks every 2 weeks....too much money...(yah, I doubt that! And if I was, it was probably only by $10 or less), and I was very quickly turned down.

The lady there had the nerve to say, "If you were over 60 or if you had children, it would be a different story."

Ok, let me go open my legs and get knocked up JUST to get free/cheap health insurance. Head, meet desk.

How do you know that this guy was getting assistance? There are possibly other explanations for what was happening there. Seems odd to me that a government office would be handing out cash.

Yeah, there's people who know how to work the system no doubt, but I always question a lot of these "people in expensive cars and fur coats buying stuff with food stamps" stories. A lot of them are usually second hand accounts also, which sends up a red flag on that point alone.

Also, just because someone has a expensive brand car, doesn't mean he/she paid a lot for it. I used to work with a guy in retail who would casually mention he had a Porsche, but it was a model from the 80s he bought used and fixed up for a few thousand dollars.

We don't know for sure if the guy was getting assistance. How do we know he wasn't shopping for another family member?

For example, my grandmother is not on assistance. However, she lets me use her Giant Eagle discount card for gasoline from time to time. (Every time you shop at "Da Iggle," you get points. These points can be then used to get 10 cents off per gallon at one of their GetGo gas stations. Since she no longer drives or has a car, I ferry her around--rather than pay me, she lets me use the card.)

I don't know about elsewhere, but locally, the only person who can use assistance funds is the person to whom they are issued. You have to sign them, too.

There used to be a problem with people selling their food stamps and using the money for drugs or stuff like that.

Armani looks like--a suit. Like any other suit out there. Like the suit you might find on the rack at Goodwill for five bucks. Seriously.

The one and only suit I own is mismatched in that I bought the jacket and the pants separately. It looks decent and it's not powder blue with a matching frilly shirt, bell-bottom pants and stains on the lapel.

I fail to see the attraction to Armani. It's not as if the label's sticking right out for all to see.

JMO, but I don't think anyone has a right to judge people based on appearances alone. I think it was very rude to flip out at someone who showed no signs of being a SC at all, and just didn't happen to fit into a specific image that you thought they should fit into.

JMO of course, but if I was those customers I'd have some major complaining to do.

While immaculately-dressed people in an expensive car using food stamps to purchase junk food would raise red flags and set off alarm bells to me, I too do not think it is appropriate to just go postal on them. Not exactly good for business when you have people going around telling their friends that they saw you tearing a customer a new one, no matter how justified you think it was.

I would have bit my tongue, did the sale, and then posted about it later if I felt like it.

Well, all those alarms going off plus buying junk food with food stamps might just have been too much........ It sounds like he went overboard, but it also sounds like it was a welfairy of the highest order....... oh well, nothing can really be done about it, so meh.

I wouldn't get hung up on it. I see this crap all the time. Idiots like this usually do not have the means to afford the real goods. They struggle to make payments on a salvaged vehicle (I saw a salvaged titled 2005 BMW X5 4.8L, retails at near $80k, it was rebuilt and was sold for under $30k), they buy ONE nice suit/dress/fur and wear it often to "show off", and they are in major credit card debt.
Have the satisfaction of knowing that you are living within your needs. I would rather own a late 90's model Accord then struggle to pay for a used luxury car, no debt is a nice thing.
