I got a call at about 4 am today while sitting at the front desk. A student was complaining about a couple of noisy people in the room next to hers. I quickly left to go investigate. I knew this was going to be bad as I felt nauseous just from the fumes as I approached his door.
When I got there, the girl who complained stuck her head out to complain a little more, and I could hear why. I knock, and give my "you gotta calm down or you're gonna get in trouble" speech, and suggest he try going to bed. It's at that point he goes and slams on the bedroom door. Turns out he's got a friend in there, and they're both too drunk to operate a door knob. They actually managed to get the door open, and I told the friend it was probably time to leave. They seemed okay with that, and thinking the situation resolved, I went back to the front desk.
Shortly after I got back, I get another phone call from the same student. The guy is STILL banging around, only *joy of joys* his drunk friend stumbles off the elevator just then (who seemed to have trouble working the automatic door). At this point, I call the on-call Resident Assistant, thinking she might have more luck convincing the guy.
RA comes down a few minutes later to take a smoke after dealing with the guy, and tells me that the girl stuck her head out again to mouth off to the drunk guy (hardly helpful), and that she thought everything was settled for the moment.
After she comes back from her smoke break she says she can hear him from outside (he was on the 8th floor!) so asks me to come up with her, just in case. Finally, after more cajoling and wheedling, we think we've got this guy convinced to quiet down. It's been almost 15 minutes now since the last time we talked to him. If we talk to him again tonight, he's going to be facing fines.
But this guy was so amazingly drunk, I was surprised he could even speak, though he certainly wasn't coherent. I wonder if he thought we were magical fun-killing pixies... Sheesh.
