I used to work for a certain major pet store that believes that they give the best CS around. I have never had to kiss so much customer butt as a manager in my entire life! I have far too many doozies to share, but this was a good one.
The grooming department always had the best things happen! You had to be really careful though not to kill someone's dog. That would not be good. But most of the stuff was routine. It's pretty typical for someone to drop their dog off for a couple of hours to be groomed and then come get them later in the afternoon. Occasionally, some loser thinks it is doggy day care and they leave their dog for the entire day in a kennel that is meant basically for drying and keeping them clean for an hour or two. But all too often people leave them for hours and are of the opinion we can just take their dogs to the park for a walk and to do their business. Doesn't happen. About the time Fido gets off his leash and gets hit by a car, bites some kid or another dog, or meets with some other terrible fate, all Hell will break loose. So, the dog sits in the kennel. Most will bust a gut before messing in the kennel.
So this couple comes to get their dog after leaving it with us for 9 hours. The dog was pertrified to begin with and it was his first grooming experience. I'm sure he thought he was abandoned. Now, most semi-intellectual people will let their dog take a crap before getting into the car since he's been cooped up all day. Kinda like letting him outside when you first get home. But not these people. So, they load up this beautiful German Shepherd in the back of their SUV and the car ride, nerves and everything kick in and you guessed it......doggy diharrea all over the back of the SUV.
Of course, they call me screaming like crazy the next day that how dare we do this to their car!!! I don't recall taking a dump in the back of the truck........ Was I drunk or something???? Now, internally I'm laughing so hard I want to wet myself. But I'm trying desperately to stay professional and find out what the solution is they're looking for. They felt that since we didn't instruct them to let their dog go potty....we should pay to have the truck cleaned. It's moments like these that I wish I didn't have to be so damn polite and ask them if I need to give them a daily reminder call to feed him too. So, being the wonderful company we were....we offered to pay to have the back of the truck cleaned. We told them just to bring in the receipt and we would reimburse them for it.
The next day, they come in with a receipt for $159.00. What the???? Turns out they decided that since we were being generous, they'd have the SUV cleaned alright. They even had the motor detailed. What? Did the dog crap on that too???? It was bad enough they wanted us to pay for their stupidity, but now they were just flat out robbing us in my opinion. So I called my District Manager to get his approval to only pay for the steam cleaning of the back. NOPE!!! He agrees to pay for the WHOLE DAMN THING!!!! I'm sure this won't be the only time those people rip that store off. So see, it's not always your manager's fault they are difficult.....they usually have some moron above them making their job a living Hell and we all know that it all runs downhill!!!
