I was working stock today towards the back of the store when I heard a guy up the front raising his voice to my manager, so I went up to the front to check it out. After listening in for a few moments to figure out what was going on and hearing him insult my manager more than a few times and realizing he was trring to pay with a check without any form of I.D. aside from an insurance card and his fancy car, I decided to pipe up. She had already been having a bad enough day with things going on in her personal life and I wasn't going to let some jerk make her day even worse.
When he paused to take a breath I interjected myself in the the conversation saying, "Sir, not to be rude but it's corporate policy that we can't accept any check with out a form of photo I.D. If we do, we can be fired. If my own mother walked in the store right now and tied to pay for a purchase with a check without proper I.D. I would refuse her. Now from what I understand she took your check anyway. There is no way that wouldhave happened if I had checked you out, because I don't feel any customer is worth my job."
He just kind of stared at me for a second and then said, "Where's your manager so I can tell him how rude you are?" and I almost couldn't keep a straight face. My manager, who he had spent a good 5 minutes insulting, looked him square in the eye and with all the authority you can squeeze into a 5'2" frame said "I'm his manager, how can I help you today?"
No I.D. Man loked down at his shoes mumbled a cussword ot two under his breath and exited the store as quickly as he could without saying another word.
