So per my name I'm a drafter, two of my best friends are also drafters. We went to high school and parts of college together, me and one the other guys worked together for 3+ years.
Anyway, the three of us decided to start our own business doing drafting and design. We bought ads in the paper, made up business cards, all that jazz. We did some work for another drafting company (but the owner seemed more interested in us and helping us get set up than doing work for him).
We get a call from a lady who wants to build a house. We meet her at her lot. She shows where they want the house, and gives us some basic plans of what they want.
We draw everything up put PRELIMINARY-NOT FOR CONSTRUCTION all over them and give them to her (with a bill for work done so far) so she and her family can look over them.
Weeks later they call and tell me that the stairs were "Poor design" (which pissed all of us off like you wouldn' t believe. It was her goddamn idea) and they had other things they wanted added.
I told her we would meet with them to discuss everything. She didn' t know when they could do it, but would get back to me.
Months go by and she calls again. Tells me if they don't get their plans to the county by the end of the year they will have to add sprinklers. How soon can we have the construction set done? (It was November)
"Well we have yet to see what changes you want made, but we can either do a set based off our originals, which will take two days, or we can meet and go over the changes, and get you plans two days after that"
"I'll have to call you back"
So weeks go by again, and she tells me they sent our set to the county for permits. Okay, what the f**k!? And of course they got rejected.
I explained to her that of course they did, they have "Not for construction" on them, and they aren't complete.
They ended up buying plans from a book, and submitting them, they had issues that they would want us to fix for them. But they paid us for what we had done (this was months later keep in mind), but they wrote the check out wrong so then we had to run around that for weeks.
They never called again thankfully. Recently I was in the area, and saw they they are just now finishing construction. We started their work in May of 2005.
And there ended our plans of getting rich, because none of us ever wanted to do drafting work like that again. We ended the business.
