  • No we are not trying to rip you off...We are trying to help animals

I work at a Petstore and our credit/debt machines has only three questions and I got told every day that this is like 20 questions, that is why to many. Why are their so many questions? Its three, Key pin or press cancel and Enter for pin; They then ask if you want to donate $1 to help the homeless animals (All the money gets divided out between the shelters in the area, we do not make a dime, we cannot add it ourselves they actually have to push the button: Important later) and if the amount is ok. How hard is it. But these are the most common accordances

    Me
    SC-Sucky Customer

    SC-Its a debt card
    Me-OK slide it through
    Finished with the process
SC-that is 20 questions, why do they ask so many questions.

This story was kinda of funny

This women calls because she pushed yes that she wanted to donate $1 to help the homeless animals, now gas prices are $3.00 at this point, and she is yelling because we charged her.

SC-I got charged one dollar to help the animals. What is that? I never agreed to that.
Me-Actually you did, you have to manually push the button that sees yes when asked if you would like to donate. We cannot do it ourselves (Well we could but its a LONG drown out process to do it ourselves.)
    SC-So who gets the money
    Me-The local humane societies
    SC-Well that's a ripoff. I am not paying it. I want a refund
Me-OK if you want to come in the store we will refund the difference
    SC-I will.

She drove across town to get $1 back that was a donation that she voluntarily gave to the less fortunate animals. Its also tax detectable and she paid about three times that amount to get her to get her money back. Some people have no concept of generosity or responsibility. But it was kinda of funny because it was her own fault for pushing the button and she will be payed a lot more in gas, that is contributing to the Big gas corporations, then to contribute to the animals. Oh well at least she paid more driving back her to get her $1.

Now I can understand if we did it ourselves or if it was a price error then driving back is for principle not the money. But she did it herself and it was for a good cause and if she really needed the $1 so badly she could write it off on her taxes instead of driving back to the store to get the $1 so it would be a win/win situation. She would feel good about doing something for an animal in need and the shelters would get money to feed the animals.

The SC is a dimwit. If tha thappened to me I'd cut my losses, and if i didn't want to donate, I'd pay closer attention, next time. Though I'd donate two of our pets, a cat and a dog, were strays from the shelter. This was a lose/lose situation.

actually I like that feature-use it everytime I go in-I live, like most of us-paycheck to paycheck-so the probably $50-$100 I donate over a year doesn't seem as much.
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

I had kind of the same thing happen to me, but at the gas station near my parents. I live in NJ, so no self serve, and they are in VA - well, the station closest to them also has a car wash, and when you pay at the pump, you get the option to choose to add a car wash. Never having been there before, and the fact it was sunny, and glare on the pump was bad, i hit yes...thinking it was asking if i wanted a receipt. When I got my receipt, i realized what I had done. I think it was like 4.95, so i went inside, and explained what I had done, very nicely. They, very nicely, refunded me the car wash. HOWEVER, and i've seen this at other places too, i am aware of it, and make sure I hit no...but had they said no, i would have chalked it up to experince. But i would not have driven across town for $1!!!! I was still there, so no biggie.

Speaks volumes about character, spending at least $5 to $10 bucks worth of your time to call back an accidental $1 donation to a charitible cause that I can't see anyone being against.
