  • Customer calls the police on the store...

Yep. In my career with this company (over 6 1/2 years as a tech) I've only seen this one other time.

A lady comes in, to set itup, she has a PDA phone and is wearing a bluetooth headset. She's told by the rep that if we have to order a replacement it will b 3-5 business days. Customer is OK with that.

    Remember that paragraph.

The other tech looked at the phone, it's a bad earpiece but we don't have any in stock (dangit) so he orders a replacement since we don't have any. To be nice,l he gives her a free headset (he didn't see her with the BT headset) so the phone is useable until the replacement comes in (but she can keep the headset).

Sure enough, she goes ballistic over this. She claims that her ears are extremely too sensitive for her to use a headset and that she's leaving for Jamaica in a few days and demands we give her a new phone now. She's swearing and throwing insults all over the store. The MOD asks her to either calm down, leaver or she'll call the police. The customer replies "well, I'll call the police on you and they'll make you give me a new phone!" (Yes, I guess it's like that lady who called 911 because BK wouldn't give her a burger).

Sure enough, 5 minutes later the police show up. An officer talks to the customer outside and comes in, rolling his eyes. He spoke to the MOD who explained to him that we did try to take care of her within the policies. He ended up taking the store manager's name and number and gave it to the customer.

Store manager calls me in a few minutes, no we don't have any phones to give her. The store manager also recognizes her voice. She works for a 3rd party dealer (was also fired from a corp owned location for, you guessed it, poor performance and a bad attitude). She knows the system and is trying to abuse it.

And the police didn't arrest her for wasting their time why? If I was that officer I would have bee like "Miss Lady-who-called-us-for-no-good-reason-when-there -are-children-dying, you're under arrest for falsely calling the police! wa-baam!"

It should be against the law if it isn't!

I think there are laws against making false police reports although I'm not sure about wasting a cop's time. Now if I had been the officer I'd have taken her to a back alley to 'chat' with my partner has lookout (I was lookout last time damn it!) after making sure there were no witnesses or cameras around.

And that boys and girls, is why I shouldn't join the police. I would not make it a week after training before giving in to temptation.
How was I supposed to know someone was slipping you Birth Control in the food I've been making for you lately?

Or at least give her a ticket...

And people wonder why police, etc., sometimes take excessive amounts of time to respond to REAL emergencies.

Don't worry, the first time the lady didn't agree with her bill and the store refused to give her credits (which she did not deserve) so she called 911 saying that she was being robbed at the store.

Sure enough, when all was said and done she WAS arrested.

Calling in the police when you disagree with someone is not a crime, in-fact sometimes the police wished people did it more instead of getting all worked up and then committing a crime in anger (ie, fighting, throwing bricks thru windows, etc)

But to my knowledge, using 911 for non-emergency purposes is a crime both in Canada and the States and probably in most of the world where the service exists.

You should have said, "Lady, tell me where in the Constitution that says that the people have a basic, fundamental right to be given service at any business at an time on demand."

I've gotta think, wouldn't saying flat out "I'm being robbed" get you in some kind of trouble at least of the "filing a false police report" variety? I mean, at that point, you are accusing someone of an actual crime, not just asking for impartial arbitration of a dispute.

We had a lady call the police on our store because we were "stealing her groceries." Translation: All of her checks and credit cards declined and she didn't have any cash on her, so she couldn't pay for them and she was not happy. Neither was the police when they found out the real story. Plus, when they got here, they thought they smelled something funny from the lady's car. Her windows were rolled down and it was in the hot sun, so they were definately sure she was hiding something in there judging by the smell coming from the car. They searched it, and arrested her for possession of pot.
"But I don't want to be among mad people."
You can't help that. We're all mad here. Every fucking one of us.

Certainly there are other things someone like this could call the cops about.

Speaking of one that knows the system, we had an incident several years ago where a lady would call for a toll operator and purposely get into it with whomever happened to answer. Several employees in my place had been referred, some written up, for abusing this lady on things such as not being able to bill a call to another number if nobody could accept the charges, being unable to accept her phony calling card number, etc. This went on for months until one day, a manager decided to have someone look up the phone number she was always reporting these incidents from. It turned out that first, she would call identifying herself as some other person, but second, it was always from the same phone number. The phone number turned out to be in the name of a lady working for a competing phone provider! It got better though. When this manager decided to investigate it and contact a manager at that company, it turned out others had heard this woman in their break room bragging about how she was making life a living hell for the employees of that competitor, and it was a matter of time before she caused the firings of several employees. They fired this lady as soon as enough evidence was gathered. She threw away something like ten years with that company because she hated the competition so much and had nothing better to do than to make life hell on people she had never met, had never seen face to face, and really had no reason to be calling.

I had a woman call the cops on me/my store once.

She wanted to prepay for her gas with her CC. Unknown to me, our system wasn't set up the way I thought it was, so her card was held for $100, not the $35 she actually spent on gas. Apparently, all she had on that card was $100, and she was traveling from Georgia to Minnestota and back again, all in that weekend. So she called the cops (not sure if it was 911 or not) telling them that we stole her money.

At one point, when I was doing my best to fix the problem, she threatened me. I don't remember what she exactly said, but I was literally scared for my life.

When the friendly neighborhood cops showed up (the cop shop is located right behind the store), I told them about the threat. This woman was also very rude and uncooperative towards the police.

I somehow let the cops talk me into NOT pressing charges against her, since they didn't want to deal with her until Monday when they could take her to real jail. ::sigh:: Oh yeah. My boss made me give her a $100 gift card to replace the $100 that couldn't be returned to her card for between 3-45 (yes, 45) days.

Last year, when I was involved in a VERY minor fender bender at the mall, the asshat called 911 for what was a dent in his bumper that turned into a scratch within half an hour after the accident. Cops were NOT thrilled with him in the least. Cops liked me and let me go--no ticket, no warning, no nothing.

Ridiculous. The police should've slapped HER with a charge of some sort, for calling them up and wasting their time with petty shit. Isn't it illegal in most places to call 911 for trivial matters?
