  • 'Call these pistachios?!'

This is second hand, so I may not have all the details.

After my break, I come out on to the shop floor, and I see an open kilo bag of pistachios sitting on the till, and my supervisor tells me a man brought them up.

She told me that he'd come storming up to the till, and shouted
'I want a refund on these! They're just not right when you unshell them!'
Now, we very rarely refuse a refund, It sucks, but we've had enough fights with head office so just give refunds for any reason now.
So she is just being polite and non-commital, but asks what was wrong with them.
'they just don't look right! These aren't pistachios.'
So she does the refund and all the way through he's shouting
'I can't believe you sell these! You call these pistachios? These aren't pistachios! They aren't like the pack before!'

They seem fine to me, there's NOTHING WRONG with the pistachios. They look like pistachios, they taste like pistachios, they ARE pistachios. Weirdo.

Edit- but at least we have a huuuge bag of pistachios in the staff room. Hmmm, pistachios.

Around here we call them Phistookim (transliteration) and they are delicous. Course around here we have lots of little shops who won't shell them out and don't give refunds. You want them shelled out you go to a supermarket, they don't have a liberal refund policy either.

Home is an 'All sales final' kind of country and we're only speaking english to you because you butcher our language and it's giving us a headache.
How was I supposed to know someone was slipping you Birth Control in the food I've been making for you lately?

we sell them both in shells (sort of half open) and unshelled. Both are salted and roasted. I actually prefer naked *hurhurhur* pistachios, butthese are still yummy.

I still don't get his problem...

He probably is thinking back to the days when pistachios were dyed bright red. I used to hate that, because the dye came off on your fingers and lips. They dyed them for so many years, there might be some people who don't beleive the undyed nuts are real.

I had a guy once I had stopped, and we had just had a class that the teacher told us we should try to speak the other guy's language, to put him at ease. The guy blew a gasket, saying that I was butchering his language. I looked him square in the eye and said ,"Have you listened to you speaking English, amigo?"

Can't say anything about the UK, but I'm 34, American, and distinctly remember pistachios being red until, maybe 10 years ago. I bet the dye was carcinogenic or something. Everything is, it seems...

Hmm- 10 years ago I was 11, and I think pistachios were greeny/brown then... Not that they were a widely spread thing in our part of the uk.

If you believe various promotional claims by the pistachio industry, the dyes were to hide imperfections-- the not perfect ones were dyed and shipped overseas.

Why they're 'fessing up, I have no idea, beyond a general "aren't you glad we're not doing that now..."

You wouldn't like it, I make it sound nice but we haggle and are generaly assholes. We also drive like maniacs. Probably why there no refund thing is almost everywhere. Soon I will visit and my granny will feed me.
