But as soon as this guy gets out of jail, he will be on the road again. DUIs don't stop people from driving drunk. Come to WI, where the average joe has at least 3 DUIs on his/her record. Restrictions and even revocations don't stop them from doing it again and again.
Y'all are pikers! Check this out: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,277156,00.html

Sad to say, it's not the first one, not that uncommon, and not the worst. Hell, we even have cops getting busted for DUIs here!

And, pathetically, here's our penalties that never seem to get enforced: http://www.tax.state.nm.us/pubs/dwi.htm

We don't need new laws for most of the problems we suffer regularly.

The new 'no holding a cell phone while driving' law is not only pointless (it's the talking, not the holding that causes people to cause accidents), but woefully redundant. In California, for example, the only time you're allowed to not have both hands on the wheel while the car is in motion is when you are shifting gears for a manual transmission or when you need to use hand signals, and that's it. But rather than actually enfoce the laws we already have, which would take work, they just make new laws to make it look like they care when they really only care about looking good, not being good.

I actually had a minor accident because of having a drink in my car.

No, I wasn't drinking anything, and I don't drink alcohol 'cause it tastes nasty and makes me sick to my stomach.

I was coming back from a fast food run, and the soda that was in the passenger seat tipped over, so I reached over to right it. While doing so, I yanked the wheel and drove up onto the curb. Thankfully, I only drove partially onto the curb, it wasn't a spot where there was a telephone pole (that was another 100 feet up), and there was nobody walking around.

Can you tell I hadn't been driving a car for very long? I've never done anything like that since.

My coworkers' sense of humor is my incentive to not drink and drive.

Picked up the paper at work this morning, turned to the police blotter and discovered that our former assistant apparel manager (who nobody liked) was picked up for DUI. It was her second offense and netted her about a $900 fine, one-year license revocation and 5 days in jail.

What do my coworkers do upon discovering this newsy news niblet? First somebody whipped out a red pen and circled the entry in the police blotter. Then somebody else cut out that section of the paper, took it to the copier, blew it up, and routed it around the store for LULZ. Finally one of the softlines people, who particularly hated former apparel assistant manager, took it and stashed it away by the fitting rooms, saying she would whip it our whenever she needed a good laugh.
