  • ....A simple "no" will suffice...

Once again, this is a crotchety old man story. I don't understand it! I was always taught to revere and respect the elderly (hell, my grandparents had a BIG HAND in raising me). I'm always respectful. I go out of my way to accomodate their needs (bringing items to the register for them, steering things for them, directing them where they need to go or calling someone up to get things for them, etc.). Why do they feel the need to torture me?

    Crotchety Old Man: It's obvious
    Me: Your loveable punching bag

COM had bought a computer, monitor, and printer combo.

Me: Well, sir, did they mention our service plans to you?
    COM: What's that?
Me: Our service plans on your items today.
COM: Oh. Well, no. They didn't mention those.
Me: Well, sir, we do have several service plans. They protect your item against heat, humity, dust, lightening strike, or power surge. (going on and on....those detials will be important in just a sec)
    COM: Oh is that so?
    Me: Yes, sir.
COM: Well my home has very little dust. And it's climate controlled, so we won't have any problems with heat. And I've already shown the electric company how my one comuter is costing me $6000 a month! So, no. I don't think I'll be needing that protection.
    Me: ...Ok. No problem.

The kicker on all this is that his card was declined.

One computer is costing him $6000 a month? Is that a typo, a hyperbole, or is he full of crap? Unless he's got HAL in his house, I doubt that it's costing him that much.

Okay, since that is what he said I have to do this now
        (At the SC's house.)
SC: Should I get any service plans? You know, in case something happens to you?
HAL: I'm sorry SC, but I can't let you do that.

          Theory:

He's got a massive grow op in his basement, and has somehow convinced a naive employee of the electric company that his electricity needs are for a computer, thus preventing them from reporting his unusually high usage to the police.

          Theory 2:

He's gone senile in his old age.

I know which one is more likely, but guess which theory I like better?

Is he paying for the electricity for the entire neighborhood, and more?

Even the best porn will only cost you about $20/month in electricity costs.

                    I'm not even going there

I think the guy has a few screws loose. There's no way in hell his computer is using that much energy.

Have you been reading my fanfic? I do have a short story up involving a backyard missile silo and launching equipment in the basement.

Even funnier was Lynda's reasoning for it: nobody else in the neighborhood had one.

Or it could be that the neighbourhood is stealing power from his meter and he just assumes that his bill is naturally that high.

Whatever the reason, the guy is a serious tosser.
