you said is an older "gentleman" well my best guess is that he is one of those " I do not like all of those new fancy plastic gizmos" type of person. he has one of those original IBM pre system360's in his basement. ya know the ones with pull out board with tubes and big wires and are the size of a medium house and suck power like a whole block of houses. prolly bought it surplus back in the 1960's or 70's
