  • She didn't have a Halo, thats for sure.

So this woman comes in and asks for Halo stuff for her kid. I ask if she wanted the Game manual, the novels, or the Graphic Novel.

"What the hell are you trying to do, get me to buy more crap?"

Great, just what I needed. I repeat again: Game Manual, Novels, or Graphic Novel.

    "I guess Novels."

So I show her the selection. "Thats it?"

"Well, Bungie and Microsoft are too busy making the game instead of focusing on Novels."

And she goes into a tirade of how she hates her son playing Halo, that he doesn't spend enough time reading, and it somehow manifests into World of Warcraft and Dark Elves. I'm going "Wtf, so why are you asking me for Halo stuff then if you hate it."

She's trying to springboard him into reading by buying books based on something he likes. It actually makes a certain amount of sense. Though it's not likely to work.

If you've never played it before, and have only heard how addictive it is and how many hours some people will spend on it I can understand having a negative opinion of it. I've never played it, don't know sam hill about it, and only know that its like the crack of the video game world. Please don't kill me for that analogy but thats just the opinion I've picked up from comments in various forums. Please note my era of video games pretty much ended with the PS1 (Tekken and Tony hawk type games).

I'm sure its no where near what I've heard, but until you've actually played it, or seen it played it's hard to get the image of folks playing for 14 hours straight out of your mind.

Damn straight. Why do you think it's nicknamed World of Warcrack? And just like a crack addict, those of us playing it are loathe to give it up!

Nowhere in the conversation did she even ask for me to suggest other titles. Just Halo and the Scantily Clad Night Elves.

OK, obviously she did not grasp the key word here: OR

I hate Halo, too, for different reasons (I've never read/played it, just shelved it when I was Fiction lead). When people wanted the novels, we never seemed to have them. When I was trying to cram things onto the shelves, we had a million copies that were forever falling on the floor...

So I guess that means that SO and I need to get into a 12 step program?

Honestly, unless you're playing 24/7, there's a fine line between playing the game and being an addict.

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.
