  • Drive-thru idiot-long

    Hi everyone
I've been reading CS since it first started under Mr. Slugger, and now that I've gotten back into customer service, I've felt the need to post again. Thank god for this site

I'm back at McDonald's after being gone for 7 years, and I had a winner today that is the cause of today's post.

I was in the first booth of the drive-thru, and I had a guy place an order at the speaker. No big deal, right? Well he gets up to my window, and he's on ...a bike. And no, not a motorcycle, not even a scooter, but a 10-speed. And towing around 2 little kids (as in, toddler age little kids) in one of those contraptions that you can get to attach to bikes for family rides to boot. I'm sure my face was

There is a reason we have the policy of only taking people who are in cars, trucks, vans, etc through the drive-thru. To get to our first window, you have to drive around a very sharp, blind cornor. As in, no one can see anything going around that cornor. As in, it would have taken just one speeding car and those kids would have been dead.

I opened up my window and told the guy very abruptly that I could not serve him and he needed to come inside as there were cars coming through the drive thru. So he came inside and complained about me to the shift runner. Thank god I'm a manager too, so I couldn't really get in trouble or anything.

He complained that I was "rude". Well, sorry your precious little feelings got hurt Mr. Man, but better you have hurt feelings than your kids being hurt/dead. My main concern was getting you and your kids out of our drive-thru ASAP, nothing else. Still can't figure out how he got the sensor to go off when he was just on a bike

I hate those things. I'm always afraid something bad will happen.

No - IMHO they're just a major lawsuit waiting to happen.

A friend and I gave a drive through person a laugh. We were walking to the door and crossed the drivethrough area. Appearantly she saw us on a camera or something and made us both jump when she said hi through the speaker when we weren't expecting it. She was still laughing when we got to the counter.

You wouldn't believe how many people have done that at my job. I mean, why do these idiots insist on walking up to the DRIVE UP! We had one guy who told that we can't help him cause he WALKED up. The guy wouldn't damn listen to us. So i got my supervisor over. We HAD to help him. We should have a sign that says, "FOR YOUR SAFETY, ONLY PEOPLE IN MOTOR VECHILES ARE TO BE SERVED AT DRIVE UP" but even with that, some idiot can't damn read. But its all common sense.

yeah, so they can sue our butts and get a bunch of money.

It's usually a convienience thing. I've been tempted at times. Long line inside, no cars outside. Didn't work..

I can understand the temptation; however, we weren't that busy at the time, so he can't really even use that as an excuse.

And also, I think this incident really bothered me because in my professional life I'm a social worker who specializes in child welfare. I've worked with too many kids who have gotten hurt because of their parents, either intentionally or unintentionally. I'm of the opinion that if you want to risk your own sorry ass with your stupid decisions, so be it, but the minute you put a child in danger in front of me, you will not like the results, I promise you.

I once saw a grown man peddling a bike with one of those contraptions, except you'll never guess what was inside of it...

He was toting around a golden retriever!

Wow what a spoiled pet that must be!

Back on topic.....I guess that SC doesn't care about his or his kids' safety.

What state do you live in? I live in South Florida and all the drive throughs I've been to have a sign that says, "Per FL Statute blah blah you must be in a motor vehicle in order to recieve service."

I mean it is called the DRIVE through.

                      About Drive-thrus...

There is a popular video on You Tube© that shows a guy ordering a drink and then throwing it back at the person as they yell "INCOMING!"

There have been a rash of copycat instances of this going on all around my area, as near as 20 miles away. The bad thing is that they aren't always just throwing back the drink. In two instances, drinks that have had stuff they believe is antifreeze put into the drink have been thrown. This caused one worker to get burning eyes and become sick from ingesting it.

You fine people who work the drive-thru, please be careful. The SC's are attacking.

The local BK here used to shut the walk in part early and only serve from the drive thru window.

They closed down a while ago and its now a Portugese chicken restaurant, which is pretty nice.

I almost feel like walking up to a drive-thru and ordering.. but, then again, I'm also the kind that'll pay using $2 bills. ^_^

Pretty much that way in Kansas, too. Although I'm not sure it's state law here.
