For some reason some people think that the only "real" job in existence is whatever it is they do - every other job isn't a "real" job because it's not as important as their job.
    Don't wanna; not gonna.

Perhaps she always wanted a daughter, had a boy instead, dressed him up like a girl to pretend...and now she is warning him never to revert to his true nature and crush her pathetic pretend existence!

      Hey it could happen!

        Hey it could happen!
It, in fact, happened A LOT back in the day. I've seen a number of stories where a child was born male, parents decided to force a gender change, made them grow up female. In one particularly disturbing story, a boy was brought up as a girl, taken for years to a therapist, and told she was definitely a girl, sexually abused, and forced to take estrogen. What she didn't know was the therapist was using their talks as a case study to prove that 'she had broken the gender mold', and didn't want to be male (entirely not true, by the way). Years later, she had gender reassignment surgery to become male again, and found out she was born male. Can't remember if she sued or anything, but you can bet it was disastrous to the therapist's study...

You know, there's everyday idiocy, and then there's lifetime idiocy.

There is "cutting a branch while standing underneath it" idiocy, and there is "cutting the whole tree so it will fall on your head" idiocy.

There is "I can get home even though the meter's on E" idiocy, and there is "I can get home even though the engine is on fire, the hood is busted upwards and the undercarriage is so close to the pavement that sparks are flying out when I pass over anything higher than a molecule-sized pebble" idiocy.

Guess which one that woman falls under.

Not to mention it sounds like that kid is only going to end up in a psychologist's office when she reaches high school, which only makes things worse. I speak from personal experience on this one... might as well tell your children you would like them better if you would shut up and do everything you're told. *grumble...*

We studied a book about that in my gender psychology class in college, only it was male twins in the story. There was a circumcision accident on one and he was raised female...didn't find out until almost the end of high school. Scary stuff.

That sort of thing tended to happen when a child was born with an ambiguous gender (i.e. both male and female parts). They'd chose one, and raise the child that gender. Except, that there could be some severe consequences to that if they chose the wrong gender. So now it's become more standard practice to wait until the child is older and then make a decision if necessary.

You can't just say "oh, I wanted a girl, not a boy" and change the child's gender. In the story you are referring to, there was an accident shortly after birth that caused unrecoverable genital mutilation. Doctors decided it would be better and easier to raise the child as a girl and did so. The result of that were not good and is often used as a case study of why trying to determine a child's gender right after birth like that is a very bad idea.

It's a shame you didn't have a child with you so you could reply.

"If you ever become one of those entitlement whoring, self-absorbed asshats I'll disown you" in a voice loud enough to be heard by the woman.

I believe it is because of people doing studies like that that they began requiring all studies to be approved by a panel before proceeding. It really limits what people can do, but it also prevents emotionally and physically harmful studies such as this from happening.

Why does this website remind me so much of Sociology class? We did a bit on ambiguous gender, and all of that. Here's a fun fact, Charles Manson, you know that psychopath that will never get out because he keeps carving swatstikas into his forehead, or other crap like that. He was forced to dress like a girl as a child. So, while it doesn't excuse him, it kinda shows what had a hand in screwing him up. Another killer, Otis Toole was also forced to dress like a girl. Both of them used to have to go to school like that. Serious psychological damage can result, though those two are more of the exception than the rule when it comes to how badly it can screw you up. I have too much time on my hands to know the personal history of psychopaths
It is inaccurate to say that I hate everything. I am strongly in favor of common sense, common honesty, and common decency. This makes me forever ineligible for public office.

We remind you of Sociology, because we are the people out there, on the front lines, people watching/interacting, and making up our minds as to why people act the way they do. WE are the Jane Goodalls, and they are the chimps!

In other news, so, I can use 'being forced to dress 'human',' as an insanity plea later in life?

And this, boys and girls is why you do NOT have your sons circumsized.

BTW, CSI did a story like this.

Law and Order actually. In the end one of the twins kills the psychologist but there's no way to tell which one did it, so they get away with murder.

From what I remember, the shrink got through trial as 'not guilty' of killing the twin brother. Twin sister's not happy about that, kills him in his office, and runs off.

In the episode, a guy is killed and they focus on one of the twins having done it. The investigation reveals that one of the twins is really a guy and that the person who was killed in the beginning of the episode was killed in self defense. The twins get mad at the doctor then one of them goes and kills him. Since their DNA is identical and there's no way to tell which one killed the doctor, they get away with it.
