Forgetful customers who can't remember account numbers

I know most of us have forgotten our account customers once in our lives but you HATES it when they like to blame you for it or even gve you a hard time when you are trying to look it up. I had one bitch who wanted to deposit money into her son's account. She doesn't know the account number. So, i figure i would look it up myself. While I am doing that and after I find it, she asks me the most stupidest questions as well as comments. She even had the aduacity to tell me that she never knew how complicated it is to look up his account number. When I tell her that I have his account number, she keeps questioning me. I could understand if she wanted the money to go into the right account, fine but the tone of her voice was merely conscending as well as making me look stupid. When I tell her that there are a lot of people with the same names, she acts all surprised. She even tells me that there is only Thomas Dobbs in a bitchy tone like I am wasting her time. Bitch, if you had his account number in the first place, I wouldn't have to wasteyour time.

I get this ALLLL the time. When people call in, I say, "Can I have your mobile or account number please?" At least once a day, I get someone who says "Oh. I don't know either of those." I'll respond with, "Well, I can't assist you without being able to access your account," and then I get the awkward silence, like they can't believe what I just said.

They usually just hang up.

I really don't get how people don't know their own farking phone number. I get people like this too, and it never surprises me any less than it did the first time.

I go in with the expectation that nobody knows their account numbers, and am genuinely surprised when anyone does. Our account numbers range from 10 to 16 digits long, and most people have more than 1 account.

I do expect someone to be nice about it though while I'm looking it up.

And if you don't have your account number with you in that beach bag size purse, you'll need some backup plan when we can't give you your account number because we are running with no power, and the lobby is closed (no power=no cameras), and we are only using the first drive up lane, (no power=no vaccuum tubes), and we can't call another branch since the phones are VOIP (power=no internet=no phones), and yes we are using or cel phones for emergencies, company security policy says no confidential business on cel phones (like account numbers), and, and, and, and . . .. oh, that was for about an hour today.

In unrelated news, there was an 8 foot wide, 15 foot deep sinkhole out between the parking lot and the road when I left.

I used to not know my cell number. The reason being, is that I never had too call myself. But I did learn it

Mine displays my number everytime I turn it on or I can go to the tools option to look it up. You know it I hadn't memorized it, all the others on the family plan we have, home number of myself, my brothers, grandmother, multiple work numbers of relatives, and my old house number which hasn't been relavant for nearly a decade.

You can give account info to non account holders? My former employer did NOT allow that to be done: we had to have the # in order to deposit $$ and the suckitude was amazing and enormous!

Here's a thought for everyone, and it's something I posted on an earlier thread. Years ago at Sears, my grandfather and I were behind this man who did not have his Sears card, but gave the clerk his memorized card number. It was great he knew it, but the clerk did not ask for this man's ID or anything, just took his word he was the person whose name was on the Sears charge account.

So, even with one person knowing their account number, what about positive ID to make sure places of business are dealing with that actual person? Hmmmm?
