Had this conversation with a customer at one of our hospitals.
"What's the difference between an American Shorthair and a Pekinese?"
"Um... one's a cat and one's a dog."
"But what's the difference between them?"
"I'd say that's the biggest difference right there."
"But... what's the difference?"
"The American Shorthair is a breed of cat, named after its type of fur. A Pekinese is a fluffy little breed of dog that originated in China."
"Ooooh. So, one is American, and the other is Chinese?"
"Well, yes."
"Why didn't you just say that in the first place?"
"I figured species was a bigger distinction than place of origin."
"So, can the two have babies together?"
"...Uh, no."
"Why not?"
"Because they're not even the same genus."
"They're geniuses?"
"I need to go now."
