For the love of God, DO NOT write your PIN on your debit/food stamp card!!

    In my brief career as a cashier, I had an elderly woman try to use her new food stamp card. Her late husband used to take care of all financial dealings...so she had no idea how it all worked. She had had to get a new card, too, since he had died, and had evidently not activated the card (or whatever you have to do). The card didn't work, and she told me, out loud, I don't know how many times, that her PIN was 1234. When we couldn't get it to work she asked if someone in DHS might be available to activate the card, or tell her what the problem was.

    Ahh, yeah, state employees are in their offices at 4:50 pm on a Friday afternoon just before Christmas, waiting to serve you.

    Oh, and the food wasn't for herself, but for her granddaughter-in-law, or something like that. The younger family member had to use her own EBT card for the food, instead.
