  • Customers breaking stuff

I don't care if a customer breaks something. Please Please just tell me so I can clean it up before somebody gets hurt.

I was taking trash to the stockroom when I saw a broken candle on the floor and a lady kicking the broken glass under a shelf. As I was approaching she said "Good you came just in time, get somebody to clean that up" And she walked away

She probably was the one that broke it. Like I said I don't care that you broke it just tell us. If I had not been walking by she probably would not have told anybody. Since she kicked all of the glass under the shelf I had to look for another candle like it becasue I needed to mark it out of stock.

Many times I hear a huge crash of glass falling to the ground and when I go to investigate nobody is there. All I see is glass everywhere on the floor.

And don't get me started on people spilling drinks on the floor and not telling anybody

Yeah...that's a situation where you should've broken one over her face. Manager comes into the aisle...

Me: "I don't know what happened! I just got here. Apparently she was trying to grab two, slipped, and everything came tumbling down."

You'll need two partners for that. One in security to make the video cameras 'mysteriously' stop working for a few seconds. The second should be someone the manager won't know or connect to you to act as a shopper who 'witnesses' everything and thereby giving you an alibi.
How was I supposed to know someone was slipping you Birth Control in the food I've been making for you lately?

w had one SC buy several jugs of laundry detergent when they were on sale. the SC dropped one spilling the huge jug and kept on walking. An employee found it when they fell, thankfully no injuries. We later discovered the the SC just paid and left.

Yeah, just kick it under the shelf. Never mind if some little kid had been crawling all over the floor like they tend to do

At least thats' the first thought that came to my mind. Bah.

There's a very simple way to ensure the customer knows when to shut up if they screwed something up like this, though it'll likely get you fired: mop the floor with the customer. Actually, and this would be if I was in some sort of a supervisory position, I would demand the customer clean it up. If the customer refused...

"Okay, fine. You will, however, pay for the item AND an additional charge because apparently your lazy ass can't bend over and do it yourself, so one of our staff will have to. I'll be sure to inform the cashiers at the front. Have a good day!"

I can understand being embarassed and wanting to hide that you did something wrong. A lot of people are VERY non-confrontational. However, if you did something wrong, do you really think SOMEONE'S not going to find out if there are cameras around? Come on...seriously.

You know what's a lovely mess? When someone drops the soup cover into the soup.

Especially when it's cream of whatever.

                I hate customers sometimes.

                Coworkers, too.

Oh man, that reminds me of my pet store days big time. People are allowed to bring their dogs/cats/whatever into the store, and they do. But when sweet little Rover goes around marking his territory all over the store, or precious little Princess gets too excited and makes a puddle, the employees have no problem whatsoever cleaning it up. I mean, that's part of our job. But for goodness's sake! TELL US! I even saw a trail of poo once leading from the back of the store up to the front. Look people, if your dog is already going, just let him go and we'll clean it up. Don't try to drag him out the door, creating smaller, more numerous piles for people to step in when they aren't paying attention.

I get that all the time, a broken glass bottle either in the hotel or in the parking lot (there was a college football game this weekend and we were packed, on sunday, I had to clean up glass in the parking lot from all the broken beer bottles, I estimate about 12-15 bottles through out the entire lot, assholes).

I get pissed when its in the building, and they dont report it. Why do these asshats think its okay to leave broken glass on the floor. Atleast lie to me and say "I just came in through the back and there is broken glass on the floor" even if it was you that did it. I do not care about that, I care about someone getting hurt because you are a dumb chicken shit turd licking asshat that can't own up to a simple accident.

I did have this one guy though, whose daughter accidentally dropped a bottle of some juice under the canopy. This man, his wife, and daughter picked up the glass, asked for a bag to put it in, and then threw the bag in the dumpster in the back. He then asked for a hose so they can wash all the juice away so it won't get sticky. I told them that I will take of that, and they argued until I let them. Now thats called taking responsibility.

I was working at the deli one day (on my own as per usual) and was gleefully screwing around in the kitchen when from out in the grocery store, I hear

                      *KEEEEEESHHHHHHHHHH*

In case you didn't know, that is the sound of four cases of cooking wine toppling over due to a small child who is climbing them unsupervised.

I go running over there armed with the two meat cutting gloves for the deli slicer (which are excellant for handling glass if anyone ever needs to know that), to find an unhurt and completely unfazed child standing beside the mess with huge eyes and a major guilt face.

Cue mother, stage left, who comes running up with a full cart, looks at the mess (which is obviously at least a couple hundred dollars worth of damage), and immediately and loudly declares "I have to get my baby to the emergency room, he must be hurt!!" PUSHES HER CART straight through the middle of the mess, snatches up the child and VROOM out the door as fast as her high heels would carry her, before anyone could think to say "Wait, we'll call an ambulance."

Yeah, the children's hospital was on my way home...and it was also the nearest hospital period, less than two miles/five minutes from the store...no mother brought in a child from cutty-uppy trauma that night. Too bad nobody could think fast enough to run out and get her plates...
"Maybe the problem just went away...maybe it was the magical sniper fairy that comes and gives silenced hollow point rounds to people who don't eat their vegetables."

That reminds me of the guitar shop story, and how that child was climbing and broke all of those guitars and his mother just picked him up and ran off and refused to pay damages.

That reminds me of a story that could have been posted under the thread about retail employees who act as sucky customers. I'm pretty sure I saw one here, anyway.

I became friends with one of my coworkers at the supermarket job. We hung out together often, and one Saturday we both got to take our lunch at the same time, so we walked to the Pizza Hut that was just up the street. At one point, he spilled his drink, most of which went under the table. There were a few ice cubes on the table, so he just pushed them under the table. He refused to tell anyone about it, and got an attitude when I asked him why he just didn't tell them so they could clean it up.

I'm sure they were quite happy to find it after we left. Unless they didn't even notice it, in which case I'm sure the next customer they seated there was quite pissed.
