  • glass changing story

I used to work for a local mueseum, as a building mechanic. basically i changed lights, greased air handlers, and delt with tolet clogs. and crushed random crap with either a forklift or a man-lift. oh and did whatever little job the bosses thought of.

i was helping out with changing a window (there was a bridge over highway 40 with glass windows that kept getting shot out. no one has been hurt by this). the window had been removed, the glass company was sliding down the replacement window from the other end of the bridge. there was a railing preventing them from just lifting the new window into place. and the new one waighed about 500 lbs. 1/2 inch think heavy glass.

so there is a whole to the outside. im standing there, directing people to move to the right. this woman stomps up and gets in my face, claming that it was dangerous to do this while we were open, a little kid could fall thru, we are endagering everone as someone could shoot thru the open window (we are the #1 crime city in the usa i think....lol) blablabla. she was right in my face about it too. was quite rude about it.

i just give her a look like she was the most retarted person on the planet and held up one of the yellow "men" we used for directing the cattle (people) "mam this is bob. he helps me by directing people away from the hole. bob is protecting us by keeping you idiots over there. please move along. you are causing a traffic jam. thank you."

still amaized i didnt get canned for that. amazied i didnt get canned for a lot of crap i pulled. but they were desperate.

ill post some more stories of idiocy later.

Hey, good facilities people are hard to find. Facilities and secrataries are the two people who I'm always careful to stay on good terms with.

The science center is a rough job. Hopefully you're paid well for doing it.

Ive gotten to do jobs in the busy parts of campus when students were walking around.

Its great having a JLG lift sitting on a patio, and you work 30 feet in the air, to install hanging lights, and even with 20 orange cones surrounding just the area your working in, not even the whole of the lift, people still walk through the cones, Hello im working a 25 pound fixture with a solid glass lens that must be 60% of that weight, if this falls on you, you will not enjoy the experience!!

OH well, they don't technically have a legal leg to stand on, if the cones are up, and my co worker is trying to direct people to not walk through the cones.

(for your info, we had someone every 20-30 seconds walk through the cones. and get upset when we tried to stop them from walking through.
