Certainly I can see this happening in say, The Body Shop, but I work in a bookstore!!!
In my store we sell a small amount of lotions, the occasional body scrub stick thing, nothing much.
A woman came up to me today and asked me a question I had to get her to repeat twice.
She wanted to know, if she bought a pumice stone, could she RETURN IT IF IT DIDN'T WORK?
For one thing, all body related items are final sales. For another thing, YOU'VE USED IT TO SLOUGH OFF DEAD SKIN FROM YOUR FEET!! Why would I want it back?!?!
I sputtered that I was pretty sure it was not returnable. She complained that she had bought pumice stones before (not from us) and they hadn't worked.
She insisted I ask the giftware manager, who proceeded to:
(I can't find a barfy face icon.)
And say NO NO NO NO never!!! We wouldn't take it back!
I told the customer this, and she proceeded to give me TMI.
Apparently, she didn't know your feet had to be wet to use a pumice and had been using them on her DRY feet! This explains why the pumice stones never worked for her, and conjured up gross images in my head.
I told her to go to the Body Shop and they had experts there. I just sell books.
