  • 79 cent M&M's!!!!!!

This is a funny one. Kmart had a 2 for $4.00 special on M&M's yesterday. My store manager makes a PA announcement about it for the customers to hear: "M&M's on sale only 2 for $4.00! That's a 79 CENT SAVINGS!"

Can you guess what happens next? Yup, a group of M&M loving "ladies" came through another cashier's line (not mine, thank gord!) DEMANDING M&M's for 79 cents. Said, "We wouldn't of RAN all the way from the toy department if they weren't 79 cents!!!!" (How sad can someone be to RUN for frickin' M&M's..?) The service desk girl even called our store manager and he was like, "Umm.. I never said they were 79 cents.. I SAID they were 2 for $4.00 which was 79 cents off the regular price.."

Anyway, customers were uber-pissed and I think I saw them complaining up at service (I guess they didn't realize that it was the store manager himself who was called). So I don't know what happened. I'll try to remember and ask the people involved what became of it! I hope they didn't get the M&M's for 79 cents. They don't deserve it simply because they misheard a PA!

Sounds like some of the customers where I work. They'll see savings of $1.00 on the tag and think that's the actual price. They'll then look at me funny when I tell them they're not getting that pound of shrimp for a dollar; that's just how much they're saving off the normal price. At least most of them are pretty OK about it once they understand.

At most of the shops I go to as a customer, and definitely at the supermarkets, they make the difference very clear on the tags.

      For example:

      XYZ Chocolate

      $2.35

      Save 35 cents!

But lodging a complaint about the price of M&Ms?

This happens with the DVD displays at my store. Someone came up to a register yesterday with a copy of Spiderman 3 and wanted to know if it was $2.00

          "Regular price $21.99"

          "With card, $19.99"

          "Savings of $2.00"

          Argh, the insanity . . .

I had a customer last year who saw a sale on the starter logs you use to burn in your fireplace. They were something like 50% off and were now just a couple dollars each. Well she comes up with the whole box of 12 and gets upset once I ring up the price. Seems she thought the couple dollars was for the ENTIRE BOX instead of each. Surprisingly, she didn't want them anymore. Where is the common sense with people. Wait, if SCs had it, we wouldn't get to enjoy reading stories on this website.

I can understand the love for M&Ms. I don't eat much candy, but those things rock.
I can understand the confusion. It could happen.
I can even understand, a little, the mad rush across the store to get them before they were all gone.

But to go ballistic because you made an error and didn't understand the announcement?

You have to be some kind of moron to run like a race horse for some M&M's.

I don't know, there have been times I would have killed for chocolate. This is why my co-workers keep chocolate on hand, so they can throw some to me when I'm in that kind of mood.

These are the BIG bags of M&Ms, right? Because if we're talking about the little bags you get near the checkout counter, I think two for four bucks is still highway robbery... not that this would excuse the nitwits if it WERE the case.

If they were peanut butter M&Ms I'd be there! Mind you, we don't get them here, they have to be imported from the US so they costs a fortune. I love it when friends visit the US, they bring home those HUGE bags for me

This happened to me yesterday! We have a clearance aisle/display/whathaveyou and this woman brought two high-quality pieces of bakeware up to the register. EACH had an individual sticker on it that said "WAS $30 NOW $20" She got mad when I rung them up and said, "I thought the price was for both of them together!" I just said, "Ma'am, if that were the case, then each would have a sticker on it that said, 'NOW $10.'" She huffed off, saying it was ridiculous how expensive they were.

My manager then, of course, called out to her and offered her them at $10. Which then qualifies the incident for the "WTF @ Managers" thread.

Why must SCs always do this?

LOL nope. Just regular sized holiday M&M bags.

I'd be EMBARRASSED to make such a big deal out of M&M's. I could understand it coming from a child, but adults..
