He complained about being on hold for ten minutes? I know if I ring a call centre, I expect to be on hold for at least that long. My previous landline provider had terrible customer service and you could easily be holding for 45!
My company has fantastically low on hold times ( Few minutes tops if its busy and someone called in sick and usually no more then 20-30 seconds at the most at off peak hours. ) but people still bitch.

I'll call them on it too if they whine at me. A lot of them will be on hold for 2 minutes or so then when I answer they'll go "I was on hold for 10 minutes!". No, no you weren't. I can see exactly how long you were on hold for and I have no qualms about informing you. -.-

I'm probably veering off topic here, but the discussion about hold times reminds me of a pet peeve of mine.

Hold music is fine. It serves to reassure customers that they are still connected and in queue. What drives me nuts is when an automated voice interrupts every 30 seconds and says, "The next available representative will be with you shortly" or some such thing. Every break in the music makes me snap my attention back to the phone, thinking that a person has picked up. I don't mind waiting on hold, because I can watch TV or read while doing it - except that I can't get into it because I keep getting unnecessarily disrupted.

Maybe its just me, but I find it very jarring.

If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com

Yeah, Boozy, I spend a lot of time holding on bank lines, and they tend to do that. I think it's because call reps are often required to go back to a person on hold every 60 seconds and say "I am still here, sir, we're working on your issue. it will be just another few moments." I've worked places where you get marked down if you don't do that.

Because this is Quebec, dammit, and everybody needs to speak French otherwise your whiny ass will feel left out because you were too dumb to take English class in high school.
There, NOW it sounds familiar to me.

That's pretty much how I answer to the Deli manager when he complains me and Lionette speaks engluuuuuush in Kooooobeeeec.

I'd be throwing that cat outside, right after coating his face nice and thick with his own feces.

I love to do the same thing when people get out of hand. As soon as our queue lights start flashing, I will keep hitting the button to determine how long the longest-held call has been on hold, just so I'm aware. And maybe so I can use it against the whiny ones.

Nah, I'm the same way. Bugs the heck out of me when the voice interrupts. I know I haven't been abandoned. They'd lose business if they didn't take calls. Every 5 minutes or so would probably be a good reassuring timeframe for those kidns of things. If you even need them at all.

Which I'm sure there's evidence that you do, or else you wouldn't have them. Maybe.
