I really wish people would take the time to understand what something means before calling us out on it.

I had some random fool call me to ask me what the rates were, I told him we have no rooms, but he asked what the rates were anyways, so I told him. He then goes on about how he stays at the hotel all the time and we never charge so much. I tried to figure out how much he claimed he gets a room for, but he wouldn't say. He kept going on and on about how its illegal and how I (yes me) am going to jail for up to 10 years because of it.

I find it humorous when people say this, and the fact remains that we haven't changed our rates, they are the same as last week and the week before and next week and the week after.

So I guess I will see you guys in 10 years or so, unless they have wifi in jail.

If I had a quarter for every time someone said they were suing my company/me/calling the attorney general, yadda yadda yadda, I would be typing this from my beach house on St Bart's instead of rainy ol' Seattle.

I get that all the time. They are going sue me, my company and/or tell the President of the United States.

I've had people before tell me it was illegal to refuse to reserve a room without a credit card... because all businesses must accept cash by law (ok, cash must be accepted for all debts... that does not mean we cannot refuse to allow you to become indebted to us).

Yep, I get that one also, but typically its followed by "you don't take cash? what the hell kind of place doesn't take cash?". Its not easy to explain to this person that the credit card is for deposit and cash can also be used to settle the room charges. I typically hope that this kind of person leaves, because I hate explaining to them that there will be a pre-auth on the card when they hand it over to me and say "you're not going to put anything on my card, right?". What do they think we need the card for?

my favorite variant on that is "can I get the online advance purchase rate without a credit card?"

umm, no, because you need to pay ONLINE in advance... something that is mighty hard to do without a, oh you know, credit card...

i think they also failed to see the "ADVANCED" part. It was probably too advanced to understand.
