Well, you're using the vehicle *exactly* what it's designed for. However, the vast majority of them are used just to run down to the shopping mall, and usually do *not* have 4WD.
Agreed. And I am an owner of an SUV that does not have 4WD and I don't camp.

That being said, I DO haul around a lot of stuff, and use the versatility of my SUV in ways that may or may not have been envisioned by the designers. On road trips it is invaluable, serving as not only a giant suitcase, but also an emergency bed, a writing studio, a lookout post, a reading room, etc. For someone who doesn't off-road, I really do make full (suburban) use of my SUV.

How in the HELL can you rationalise going out into a blizzard for new furniture!?
"Okay, we got a blizzard going on. Everything's closed, and we don't have to work. But hey, check it out, Rerant's Furniture Express is open! You know that loveseat we've been meaning to get? This would be a perfect time to go get it, seeing as we have all this free time on our hands......"

    Just a thought.

That is all you need to survive. A Gallon of Milk, and a loaf of bread. That would be it.

Actually, it's more like a CARTFULL of gallons of milk and loaves of bread. Each family member has his or her own cart full.

I used to hate snow days. Kids couldn't get to school, but they sure could get to the arcade. The revenue those days was always nice, but I was usually hoping to finish some project that day....

And toilet paper. I always joke and say the grocery stores paid off the weatherman because everyone freaks out, and God help you if you are actually *out* of milk or bread, and, WTF, if y'all are snowed in for a week, nobody's gonna eat anything but bread and milk? Hell, at least get some bologna and cheese and peanut butter, ffs!

I live in an area where there is a fair amount of snow - enough so we theoretically know how to deal with it. And yet, with the threat of inclement weather, people race to the store and buy... perishable items!

I was cashiering at WW during one of these periods, and one of the customers told me the aisle of paper goods, (most notable the area containing loilet paper) was in shambles. No surprises there. Since each person was clearly intending to eat two weeks' worth of food in the next two days, the result would be inevitable.

                  No Pity

I know there will be no pity from you guys, but Dec.17 I flew back fron San Juan after a seven day cruise in the southern carribean. The pilot announced that we were coming in 30 minutes early (he forgot to mention that the airspace was clear because no-one else was so dumb as to fly that day) and as we broke through the clouds all I could see is WHITE! Trees - WHITE, Houses - WHITE, Roads - WHITE, Runways - mostly WHITE!

On the drive home (50 kilometers) most people like us stayed in the express lane, the volume of traffic kept that lane clean but all the other lanes were sheets of white, and you juessed it there were people passing us using those lanes, later we would past them as they tried to explain to the police why they were in the ditch, turned the wrong direction, sitting on top of a snow drift/snow plow drift/highway divider.

PS. I forgot my laptop on top of my truck, it stayed up on top for the entire trip!

When my husband showed me the list, I ended up nodding my head sadly to that and the one about NC'ers measuring distance by the time it takes to get there instead of actual mileage.
Well, yeah. Cause it all depends on what roads you're taking (& how fast you drive). After all, it takes longer to reach J's house after he moved closer, because you have to drive through 3 podunk towns on podunk roads after you get off the highway to get there. He lives X miles closer but it takes Y minutes longer to get there. When I say podunk, I mean podunk. The state atlas doesn't have his road name listed. And on-line driving directions? Better use the nearest cross street because they don't list his road at all.
I'm sorry, the person to whom you were speaking has been replaced by a recording. Please leave your message at the sound of the beep.
