What I don't get is why some stores ie House of Fraser and Tesco open Boxing Day and New Years and other stores such as M&S, Waitrose and Asda don't I for one will be staying all warm and snuggly in bed on those days!
As will I, with just my chocolate and gin for company since my boyf is going with his father to France. No complaints here, as they are going to the villa that my boyf's dad owns to fix it up and I will one day be holidaying there. XD
People who don't like cats were probably mice in an earlier life. My DeviantArt.
Theres last minute shopping (aka 1-2 days before) and then theres LAST minute shopping (when the stores a closing christmas eve).
I don't understand people that insist on shopping at the very last minute, just before the holiday. Did they miss the whole month of decorations? Did they not pass by any Christmas Lights? Maybe they were in a coma and just woke up at the last minute and forced there withered body out to get something special for there wives/kids?
I would like to think of the latter, where theres a bunch of people in comas, waking up and discoverings its Christmas Eve, but thats also an impossible ideal. Instead its a bunch of stupid people that were to busy and pushed it to the last possible second. *shakes fist*
Be like the flower that perfumes the very hand that crushes it.
I miss the days where a holiday was actually...celebrated as a holiday. I'm only 22 and I remember the days growing up where places were actually closed for most holidays, so people could go enjoy them with their families. I miss that.....
my union job just renewed our contract, and they took away more of our holidays. We're now only closed Christmas Day, Thanksgiving, and Easter. Since that always lands on a Sunday and in our union contract Sunday is an "Optional day" (HAH. Like we can ever choose to not work sundays.....), they can screw us out of having to give us holiday pay.
Three years ago we closed Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day, and had reduced hours on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and one other day, but I can't remember.
It just makes me depressed how little companies care these days.
Pit bull-
There is no breed of dog more in need of our compassion; in need of our call to arms on their behalf; and in need of what should be the full force of our enduring sanctuary.

Honey, in retail, it's all about the almighty dollar. We, luckily, closed at 4 Christmas Eve, and we're closed today.
I was in the parking lot at 4:15-ish to move my car from the side to the front of the building, and some dipshit actually asked if I could re-open the store for him! Not sure if he was joking, or serious, but, I'm sure the look on my face when I said, "Naw, don't think so, buddy", and rolled up my windows on my truck and locked the doors spoke volumes.
We closed at six yesterday, and actually had two lead-on-dutys to coordinate the store (one for the front end, one for the sales floor). Poor C was almost crying into her walkie for R to come lock the second set of 'in' doors because she was having trouble getting the doors closed on her side because people kept trying to come in.
They had to lock the cart doors, too, because people came in that way when they found the regular doors locked. Our poor cart attendant had to wait for the 'all clear' and R to unlock the doors again to bring in the carts he'd gathered.
At least R doesn't take any crap from anyone and was throwing anyone who came in at 6 back out again. THAT was fun to watch.
It's little things that make the difference between 'enjoyable', 'tolerable', and 'gimme a spoon, I'm digging an escape tunnel'.

My BF's great-uncle would do that. He would get a wad of cash & do his entire list in one day, Christmas Eve, before the stores closed. Which why my BF's dad got a lovely silver whiskey flask when he was 10.
Added: I almost forgot, I wasn't certain if I was going to have to stop for gas or anything on Christmas but I privately vowed to myself that if I did, whoever got stuck with me was getting a little something nice (a snowflake ornament that I made). I figured, if they're stuck working on a holiday, whether it's one that they celebrate or not, they should get something nice for it.
