A frequent customer came into the store one day (she once applied for a job; here's a tip, don't dis the display to the person who made it) to get a refund.
No problem. Our store had a fairly liberal refund policy (fabric store & you could get a refund on cut fabric, etc for the full amount that you paid), however, as the clerk told her: no receipt, no refund. We could do an exchange without a receipt, but not a refund. That took some lengthy explaining for some reason. However, she was finally convinced and left.
She returned & did bring back her receipt. This is the gist.
C: clerk
SM: Store Manager
SC: Sucky Customer
Me: waiting on someone else, thankfully
NSC: non-sucky customer
C: Oh, I'm sorry, you paid with a credit card. I won't be able to give you cash. I'll get the credit refund slip.
SC: But I paid that bill.
C (puzzled): Um, okay.
SC: So I want my money.
C: You paid with a credit card. I have to fill out a credit refund. Your card will be credited for the amount.
SC: But I paid the bill. I want my money.
C: You'll get your money on your bill. It will be credited to your account.
SC: I have paid that bill & I want my money.
C: I cannot do a cash refund for a credit card sale. Let me call the manager.
SM: Yes?
SC (getting louder): First, she says that she can't give me a refund without a receipt & now she won't give me a refund at all.
*SM: Well, ma'am, you paid with a credit card. Company policy is that we cannot give a cash refund for a credit purchase.
SC (yelling): But I paid that bill already. Why can't I have my money.*
repeat from * to * with several attempts to explain how credit refunds work, when you've paid off your entire balance, etc.
SM: Ma'am, the money that we refund will be a credit on your card. You will have that money available. So you can use it on your next purchase.
*fills out appropriate forms*
SC (still yelling): I want my money! You are cheating me. I'm never coming in here again!
Me:
NSC: (muttered) Good riddance.
