  • The Repeater and the Leaver.

I worked tonight, I work at Hy-Vee, it's great(insert as much sarcasm into that as is humanly possible) Being that I work at Hy-Vee I get to deal with basically anybody who doesn't have either a. any common sense, or b. any respect for anyone.

Person 1: A woman comes up to my register sets her stuff on the counter and then says, "I also need a bag of softener salt."
Mekay, what kind do you need?
Lady: The kind in the blue bag.

Okay, let me set this in perspective for you. We sell nearly twenty different softener salts, about four are in blue bags.

    Meo you know which kind?
Lady: The kind in the blue bag.
Me: Do you know what it's called?
Lady: No, it's the kind in the blue bag.

Thankfully they're nearly all different prices.

Me:Okay, well do you know how much it costs.
Lady:I know how much it costs at (competitors store)

Here's a tip folks, if you ask for something, do not identify it by the color it is, instead give us the F***in name!

    Person 2
    This one's short.
Woman comes up with a heavy weight rotissere(sp?) chicken. I scan and the total rings up at $8.49 Woman questions price saying she thought it was $5.99. She then proceeds to walk away without a word. She returns to the Kitchen department, realizes that she failed to read the sign right next to the $5.99 sign which was for the regular not the heavy weight. She then proceeds to leave the store and I watch from a distance as she stomps out.

Hy-Vee doesn't trust anybody with anything, my drawer doesn't hold any extra bills larger than fives and we aren't allowed to void anything over five dollars without a manager. So I'm stuck with this screen that says I'm not authorized to void this item,(or the transaction for that matter). Because of this I shut off my light and call a manager over, it takes ten minutes.

Let me explain something about people, Hy-Vee, and lights. People who shop at Hy-vee don't pay attention to lights. Who cares if their light is shut off, their checking someone out so they must be open, or my personal favorite the light is off, the register is blocked and I tell them in a raised voice I'm closed and was supposed to be off 20 minutes ago.

I turned my light off and guess what, people kept coming and I had to keep turning them away. I got yelled at.

So thank you lady, because of you, I had to shut down my lane, blcok my register, get yelled at, and call a manager over. The least you could have done is come and let me know you weren't going to get the chicken, but instead you left without a word. Even better you could have opened your eyes a bit wider the first time and saved everyone the trouble.

    I hate people.

Good thing she wasn't buying medicine...!

"I need some medicine. You know, the white pills."
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

      I GET that.

'I'm looking for something. It's in a yellow bottle. It's a capsule, with brown powder inside.'

Thanks for narrowing it down to a good half of our supplements.

You who worked at HyVee...do you happen to live in Kansas or Missouri? You don't have to tell me where, but I'm curious! I live in St. Joseph, Missouri, that's why I wonder.

Anywho, I did four years at a grocery store in St. Louis so I feel your pain on grocery store customers. They gave me migranes on a daily basis.
I may be free from retail, but the nightmares still linger.....

I think that SCs around the world are alike when it comes to not looking at lights.
I work at Wal-Mart and that is one of my biggest pet peeves. It seems like people just love waiting in line. My light is off. My closed sign is up. PEOPLE STILL LINE UP!
Then when I'm open, standing at my register, with no one in my line, customers will go to another register with people in it instead of looking around to see if anyone else is open. Then I get in trouble by the CSMs for not walking over and bringing them to my register. What I'd really like to do is just yell across the store "HEY YOU FUCKING IDIOTS. ABOUT SEVEN REGISTERS ARE OPEN DOWN HERE IF YOU WOULD JUST OPEN YOUR EYES AND LOOK AT THOSE RED LIGHTS! YES! THEY DO MEAN SOMETHING! THEY AREN'T JUST FOR DECORATION!"
*sigh* I would love to just stand on my register and scream that....maybe someday....

I'm in Iowa actually. Something about walking into a grocery store must lower people's IQ's because it seems like we get every idiot in the state.
