    I have been in situations, as the Customer, where i needed a refund because of a defective product and the amount was over the limit imposed by the system. I was patient enough to realize that the person behind the counter can't do anything without the manager. I think the OP was reasonable to ask if the custoemr wanted any other item on store credit. When the Cust. wanted the refund and was told the manager/Sup. had to do it he was the one who kept insisting that the OP do something that could get them in trouble. Sure, the Op could have rung up a cheap balloon to get drawer open, but it was not their policy they were following.
