    I guess I'm spoiled in that my school had open access internet. Who knows whether or not my new college will, but my fingers are crossed that I won't encounter any code issues.

      See, the college campus has free wireless, you just have to be a student to access it. The dorm, however, couldn't be fit with wireless for a variety of reasons, so it's all wired connections. And the service (which is quite possibly the most useless ever), requires that each computer be logged in, which requires a code which is good for a certain length of time. It's basically a way to keep track of who does what on the internet, and to make sure that guests (when school isn't in session, we rent out rooms) aren't using the internet without paying for it.

      So basically, students get "free" internet, but there's still basic procedure to log on to the service.
