Several years ago, I was working in another department of the company I'm with. Because it was a fairly new department (meaning not all policies and procedures had been set yet) and the work we did not the most popular, a lot of our inbound calls and customers were... interesting to say the least.

Anyway, one day I came back from lunch when a co-worker approached me:

CW: Hey, isn't your phone name "Paul Mitchell?"

[Like a lot of other places, we were allowed and even encouraged to give out fake last names. In my case I picked a buddy's name as a joke, not even realizing who Paul Mitchell actually is.]

    Me: Yeah, it is.
CW: Well a switchboard operator called looking for you. Apparently someone showed up in the lobby asking for you - S (department secretary) was trying to find you to go upstairs but you weren't around so C (department supervisor) took care of it.

Turns out a customer who lived in Colorado was supposedly on his way to a wedding on the East Coast and decided to take a detour through Iowa City, IA and get some of his problems resolved. Twas a bit scary to think that I was unknowingly going to have some SC ream me out (or worse) in person.

Another time we had a very angry customer show up at our building and drive around our parking lot for a time before the cops were called. We were never told the specifics, only that we should be careful when we leave the building. Wee! Thanks for that helpful advice.

Careful to do what, exactly? Remember the details of his face while he is assaulting you?

That's some craptastic security you guys have there.
