  • My Darling Customer

I'm writing to thank you for the wonderful time I had last night. The way you utterly ignored me when I said 'Hello'? I loved that. It gave me such a thrill when you spent the entire evening on your cellphone, especially the part where you were belittling me to the stranger on the other end of the line. I love it when you pretend I can't hear you. When you yelled at me because I started scanning your groceries with the order ahead of yours, because the three dividers sitting next to the belt obviously weren't good enough for you, I was ecstatic. It delighted me that you dumped two whole carts full of groceries onto my register with no regard as to which items went where, and then proceeded to make me pack them all myself. It gave me the shivers when I found out from my manger that you complained because your eggs were broken, and that the line was far too slow. And how did you know to imply that I was a racist after I told you this was the express lane?
Later, when you made sure to wait until I had finished packing all of your groceries to tell me that you wanted them in paper? Words cannot describe the way that made me feel. Then, after you made me repack them all, watching you repack them for a third time, because it still wasn't good enough, was elation beyond belief.
The snit you threw when I asked you for ID with your four hundred dollar credit card transaction was the highlight of my week, and you were absolutely right to tell me to ignore store policy and risk getting fired, because it is far more important that you are not inconvenienced in any way than it is that I can pay my rent.
