C/GL: "Aww! What's wrong, retail monkey? Did I hurt your little feelings? You gonna cry about it?"
This part made my eyes see red. Blood red.

Ban that whore bitch from the store. BAN her sorry ass!

normally i'm not a violent person (except in my mind at times heh) but the following came to my mind...
"Aww! What's wrong, little monkey? Did my fist hurt your little face? You gonna cry about it?"

But in reality, I'd say.... "Here's your money back. Leave."
(and perhaps a little bit of Romy & Michelle and toss in the "You're a bad person with an ugly heart" line)

You know what I just don't get?

How people can get satisfaction out of insulting someone who can't insult them back. Like it gives them some kind of mystical power that they can't get in the real world.

Exactly right. Now try dealing with that lady when she sits on the homeowner's association in your neighborhood, and its the only power she has in her miserable, pathetic life. Always meet the entire board for your neighborhood before moving in. I didn't once, and couldn't get out of there fast enough.

I agree the customer was a bitch and should be banned but here's where I differ. What is it going to take to make the cashier mad enough to stand up for herself? Sooner or later you gotta stand on your own two feet and take up for yourself.

And get fired? Sorry, but in a lot of cashier jobs you can't stand up for yourself and tell the customer to go jump off a cliff cuz you'll get told off by management.

I've been provoked into crying a few times by evil customers; just once was I crying cuz I was upset by a nasty bitch from hell, the other times I was crying tears of anger cuz I was physically keeping back an angry retort out of fear of being reprimanded. I honestly believe that if a customer verbally abuses you, then all bets are off and you should be allowed to pay them back in their own coin.

                    Agreed. However, such is life.

Nobody ever pushed me to tears back at weis, or, more recently, when I had my month and a half long stint at a dairy, but I've had it happen to more than one co-worker. Usually it ends with me taking over since I apparently have a thicker than average shell, and I tend to take what few opportunities I can get to tell problem customers off. So far every customer who has made a co-worker cry I've taken a stab at with my blade of sarcasm and moron smiting, and every time, because they saw the co-worker crying, my higher ups have let me off scot free for it...

I think it's a sad commentary on the state of our system here in the US that a customer service person can be verbally abused, cursed at, ridiculed and driven to tears and feels that they have to take it, for fear of reprucussions of losing their job.

The reason I say the US is that, while it happens everywhere, it seems to be much more prevalent here in the United States. This 'customer is always right..at ANY cost' philosophy is getting COMPLETELY out of hand.

I really, REALLY feel for anyone who would have to take this kind of abuse for fear of losing their job. As upsetting as my call center job can be, we are not expected to subject ourselves to degridation or extreme verbal abuse by customers. We are also allowed to disconnect a call if they curse at us, after warning them once.

I truly consider myself lucky and anyone who has to put up with this garbage has my utmost respect, and deepest sympathies.
