  • Kind of odd story my mgr told me

This story isn't so much about someone who was sucky just odd.

My manager was telling me this story yesterday about this older woman who came into the store a few days ago wanting to return a tablecloth, she had her receipt and everything but there was just one problem.... it was from 1994. He told her no and she didn't put up a fight or anything just kind of went "oh...I was hoping to bring it back because I don't need it". He did feel kind of bad (thinks she may be a bit senile) but there was no way he could give her back her money without getting in trouble himself.

I had something similar happen to me once. I had a lady bring back a summer seasonal umbrella. Normally we don't return seasonal items but she had her receipt with her......it was from 1992. I was more amazed that the item was in it's original packaging and the receipt was in perfect condition. My manager told me to return it though because we were still selling the item at the time and we ended up making out on the resell of it.

Policy inthe last retaul store I worked at is 100% satisfaction guarentee if you don;t like we will exchange it if you don't have a reciept you will get the item for the most recent sale price in store credit. This was at Bath and Body Works, for those of you that don't know most of there lotions and both sprays have expiration dates on them that is about 2 years after the year it is bought. I had a lady comes up to return a body spray, by the label you can see it is a really old body spray so I take it back to my manager to ask her how much to give her for this body spray. the manager looked at the spray and pointed out it EXPIRED in 1998 they opened up the spray to smell it and it was soo rancid we all gaged . Anyways the manager told me to give her $1.00 for it since there was absolutly no way we could even thik of reselling this lotion.

My landlady returned some $2.00 shade pulls she had purchased about three years previously.

Actually, she had US do it for her. We had asked her for replacement shades and, seeing as she liked us, she decided to buy us the second cheapest available shades instead of the cheapest.

Since she was elderly and didn't have a car she asked us to pick the shades up at the store and install them. We were quite happy to do it (she wasn't a really a bad landlady or person; she had lived through the depression and nobody could blame her for being somewhat frugal). It was after we agreed to go that she asked us if we would return the shade pulls for her while we were at the store.

They were in the original packaging and bag and the original receipt was still with them. The salesman who helped us with the shades was quite pleasant about taking the shade pulls back and we all had a quiet chuckle about it.

The funny thing was that the salesman told us he remembered helping our landlady when she bought the the shade pulls. We didn't ask, but we had to speculate what could have happened to make a transaction and customer memorable after three years.

Rose has probably passed on. She was good to us in her own way and we remember her fondly.
The best karma is letting a jerk bash himself senseless on the wall of your polite indifference.

The stupid is strong with this one.
