Just so we're clear, did the baby have four legs or two? It's hard to tell from the setting of your story.

Either way, the "lady's" behavior was idiotic.

Man, some people really have no common sense. Having a complete stranger hold your child, even for a few seconds is asking for serious trouble (especially these days with all the sickos). Some people seriously do not deserve to have kids.

The thing that I would really want to know is why she had to hand off the baby, was it so that when she clearly was getting annoyed that she needed to add hand gestures to her rant (which is what it appears to be from the raised voices).

I don't think natural selection is getting rid of these people before they can breed so I highly recommend doing it for mother nature, clearly like most people who have to deal with others she is over worked and cannot keep up with everything.
Am I sad because I am looking forward to the day when the people I will be dealing with will no longer be able to talk back?

I've had women ask me to watch their kids while they try something on in the fitting room.

"Sure. I got nothing else to do."

Yeah, watching the movie Idiocracy, the smarter you are, the more you panic and decide to have more children!

I have a good friend with a 7 month old angel named Morgan. She had that baby *specifically* because of the movie Idiocracy. She watched it and realized how easily it could happen, and as she had recently been married, she decided to have one. Both her and husband are very bright, and they are also both very attractive. That baby is going to be brilliant and beautiful when she grows up. Dad is a tall blonde of Danish descent, and Mom is a beautiful willowy redhead of Navajo and Cajun descent.

Morgan has her Momma's flaming red hair and beautiful mouth, Cecile's two best attributes. God that baby is going to be gorgeous!

I admit I get worked up over stuff like this. People who don't need (or shouldn't have) kids can have all they want, while my wife and I who have been trying desperately for 10 years to have one have to suffer through miscarriages and shattered hopes.
I am so sorry. I know too many people who can't have kids but would make wonderful parents and I know far too many people who don't seem to care about the kids they have but keep popping them out.

                The world just sucks sometimes.

I don't understand why she handed you the kid if he was in a stroller to begin with. Why not just leave him in the stroller?
