I had a woman call today and ask about rates. I quote them and the nightmare begins.
SC:That's awfully high, last time we came we stayed there it was 60$ per night.
Me: Well in the winter the rates are lower
SC: Winter!? It was in June
Me; Ma'am we never charge that rate in summer perhaps it could've been in May
SC: It was June
Okay so I stop arguing and give it to her straight that's the way the prices are and I do not have the authority to change it. Then she uses that wonderful line the owner always gives her a better rate. I politely inform her that the owner will be in later.
A few minutes later the phone rings again. It's the same lady trying to disguise her voice and asking for the same room she asked for before. I tell her it's the same price I quoted the last time she called. She stammers that she thought she was calling another hotel and hangs up.
A few minutes later you guessed it, it's her again sounding truimphant.
SC: I just checked your website and the online reservation says the rate is 20 dollars less than what you quoted.
Me: Yes we give discounts if you reserve online
SC: So if I reserve online I get the room cheaper?
Me: Yes
SC: This looks complicated. Can you walk me through this?
Me: Ma'am it's pretty straight forward.
SC: But it's too hard, can't you just take my reservation and just give me the discount.
Serously how lazy and simple-minded can a person be?
