    I love the people that think the internet and the world wide web are two different things.
    <nitpick>

    If you want to be technical about it, they kind of are. The Web is but one service of many that are available on the network known as the internet. The other services, like email, FTP, Usenet, even Gopher, are also on the internet, but they're not the Web, see?

    </nitpick>

    I *wish* I was normal enough to ignore details like this....

      dang. i'm surprised she even knows how to wipe her own @$$ without a technician's help.

      perhaps you can send someone over to her with a roll of TP, a pacifier, and some valium.

      granted i've been playing with computers for a while now but... sometimes i'm still surprised at how some people can go "OMG HELP ME *****NOW***". as if pulling a freaking attitude will get them what they want.

      when did they allow 2 year olds to order internet service?

        Me too. I was going to post much the same: the internet being the medium, the web being one of the messages carried on that medium.

        Or worse, and giving the layer model. . .

        . . . or TCP/IP

        . . . or . . .

        1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
        2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
        3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
        4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

          Just based on the opening ACE opening of the call.. sounds like she works at (Rhymes with Barter). I used to work there. Hated it. Just be glad they didn't try to make you S2S that customer lol!

          That company isn't allowed to hang up on customers. If they do, they'll be fired.

          Sorry you had an arsehole of a customer. I've had em too.. I worked their Telephone Tech support side.

            Good Lord, what a nutjob.

            If it were me, evil person that I am, I might have directed her to open up something in her registry and delete it so that her computer would be an expensive paperweight.
            Yes, but why do that to an innocent computer? It can't help it if it's owner has the technological mentality of toast.

              "Okay, you want a tech. I told you that a tech isn't going to fix it, but you insist I send one out anyways. Here's how it's going to go down then.

              1) I will make a request to send a tech at earliest available time (Usually a week or so)

              2) You will need to be there at scheduled time (8a-8p if AllDay, otherwise 8a-12p or 1p-5p) if you are not there, the tech will not show.

              3) Once he does show, he's going to tell you the same thing I already told you. He will not fix your issue.

              4) You will receive a $75 dispatch charge for demanding the tech to show. Consider this cheap considering how much I really wanted to charge you for your ignorance.

              Okay, knowing these conditions, do you still want that tech?"

                  Ugh.

                  Please tell me the supv didn't give in to her.
                  The lead got her to calm down and walked her through changing her home page.

                  We don't actually escalate to supervisors, we escalate to the next level of hourly workers and they are held to following policy even more so than we are. I actually like escalations because I know they're going to waste ten more minutes yelling at someone who isn't going to give in to them anyways. And late night escalations are fun too because that level isn't available. Customer reactions to that is hilarious.

                  Yep, that's where I work. I think telephone customers would be even worse. I've had a few accidentally come to my queue and they start the call with "OMG MY PHONE IS DOWN MY MOTHER IS IN THE HOSPITAL AND WHAT IF SOMEONE BREAKS IN MY HOUSE AND I NEED TO CALL 911 AND I CAN'T I'LL DIE AND YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE!!!!"

                    Yep.. I've experienced that and then some..

                    I worked at the center of suxellence.. Every week my sup would sit me down and keep telling me I'm not selling enough.. and my call quality scores would suffer because I didn't S2S a customer. Even when on the call the customer demanded I don't try to sell them anything.

                    I'm sorry you ended up working there.. I truly hope you find something better that pays just as much if not more!
