  • SCs are TV experts now too (slightly techy)

So a customer called in complaining that our cable box displays 1080i and his TV displays 1080p. What that basically means is that the resolution is the same but how they are displayed is different. Depending on what you're watching, one may be better than the other. I tried to explain this to the caller, but his friend/relative/douchebag expert either was handed or took the phone to inform me that his buddy's TV also supports 720p which was the same as 1080i so it didn't matter.

I explained that while they are similar, they are not the same, to which the douchebag proceeded to get that "listen to me, you silly pissant" tone. You know the one, where they're doing that passive aggressive why-do-I-have-to-explain-this laugh while speaking. I decided that it wasn't worth arguing the point and just allowed him to continue his lecture on how two completely different ways of displaying an HDTV picture were in fact exactly the same.

BTW, Wikipedia has an excellent breakdown right here on the different HD resolutions. You don't have to be a video nerd to see how inaccurate his claims were. What really sucks is his buddy will be one of those guys calling in a month upset that his HD picture isn't that good when he has certain channels on.

    Lol, what total noobs.

    720p for sports
    1080i for shows

    Plain and simple.

I've got a 47" hdtv that has 1080i (bought before hdmi rage!, only 1 dvi port ).
