Yesterday I had a customer, who could not believe that her card didn't work.
I take her order out, give her her food, and ask her for her money, to which she responds somewhere along the lines of "whaaaaghtbnbder" the following is our discourse:
(Me: The only male carhop I know
EW: Entitlement whore)
EW: I used my card!
Me: I did not get a credit card receipt, may I see your card to make sure it went through. (whenever we get an order that they use a card a special receipt prints out)
EW: I didn't use a "credit" card!
Me: Well I did not get a receipt say you had paid your balance with a card.
EW
seemingly ignoring what I said) I used my card in this thing right here.
Me: Did it say that it was approved?
EW: I used it right here!
Me: Can I just see it ti make sure it went through.
EW: Yes you can make sure it went through. (Smiles and nods but makes no motion to give me her card)
Me: I need your card to make sure the transaction worked.
EW: You can't use my card! It requires a pin number (someone has been under a rock for a while)
Me: I just need to check the transaction. (I don't need the card to check transaction status but she ordered an ass-load of food and I either have to have the food or some incentive for her not to leave)
EW: Well okay. ( reluctantly pulls out her card)
(This card looks freaking ancient, probably older than me, most of the coloring is faded and I can't even find an expiration date on the thing. When I go to check the transaction status imagine my surprise when there is an outstanding balance, I try to just fix the problem and run the card, I get an error message displaying "Card not supported" which I have never seen before)
I return and tell her the card is not supported, and ask is she has another card or means of payment, she replies this is all she has, everywhere else takes it. I tell her if she can't pay I have to take the food back, and after some time she gives it back.
And here's the kicker, she gave me a $2 tip at the beginning and said nothing of it later on, making it the highest percentage tip I have received to date.
