Ah Florida... you need better geography teachers...
I know it's probably a huge coincidence that the most geographically ignorant people I've dealt with have been from Florida... but dang.
Once my friend, who lives in West Virginia, was calling a credit card company to apply for her first credit card over the phone, at some point the phone operative mentioned she was in or from Florida. Anyway, they asked her which state she lived in so they could put it on the card application, when she said 'West Virgina', the person said 'That's not a state, and this residence does not exist in Virgina.' they declined her application at that point and she had to call back and talk to someone else.
And then there's been the two separate occasions in which a person who happened to be from Florida told me matter-of-factly that as a Minnesotan, I must live in an igloo, and by a different person that I must be lying that I can't drive a tractor, because I live on a farm. When I said I live in a city, they countered that I was lying because there are no cities in Minnesota.
(no offense to anyone from Florida)

It's not just regular people who don't know where Illinois is! "Journalists" also do not know!
I was watching one of those morning shows late last week when they were talking about all the different states for Super Tuesday. They were using a touch screen to pull up the stats on the different states and one of the ladies says "Now, let's take a look at Illinois". She then proceeds to pull up the info for Minnesota. Fantastic...how much do they pay you?
Side note: I use the word journalists lightly-do they really talk about news on those morning shows anymore?

Quoth Part-Time Parrothead View PostBut where is "Tír na nÓg" from?
Basically, the Celtic afterlife-type place. Oversimplifying, but close enough.

Quoth Geek King View PostIllinois exists, Wyoming does not. Wyoming is Apache for "No State Here."
Quoth Shangri-laschildit probably would have been something along the lines of, "you know, I think you're going to love it here!"
And I'm sorry, but if you live in Maryland and you don't know where Delaware is, you need to just never leave your house again.Last edited by BookstoreEscapee; 02-10-2008, 01:17 AM.I don't go in for ancient wisdom
