This is my first post, but I've been reading the posts on this site for quite some time, and they're great! I don't work with the public anymore, but up until this job, that's all I had done.
I used to work at an inbound call center that would take orders for everything from all natural Viagra type enhancers to work out machines, to jewelry. We also did paging for doctors and real estate agents. Also, I would take customer service calls for various American fast food chains (I'm Canadian), and those could be some hum-dingers sometimes.
This story I was taking an order for some sort of plaque or coin collection or something.
So I start out by reading off the mandatory blurb and then we get to the part where I have to take his mailing information so that we can send his purchase out to him. The WHOLE TIME he was mumbling his answers to me, to which I would politely ask him to repeat what he said and at time I did ask him to speak up. It took forever to get anywhere because everything I asked him for I had to repeat back to him and ask him to repeat it 4 or five times. So finally he gets really mad and tells me to write it down with a pen and paper instead of typing it out. Typing wasn't my problem here, it was the way he was saying it, and even if I didn't write it out, I still had to type it into the computer before I could do anything with his order, so it would've been a huge waste of time. I told him this, and he yelled at me saying I couldn't type blah blah blah, to which I would reply Well if you spoke clearly sir, I would be able to do this faster.
So FINALLY we got to the part where I thank him for his purchase and to visit the website and he made me repeat it, no joke, 10 times because he couldn't write it down. I WAS SPELLING IT OUT FOR HIM, and he still couldn't get it!! I just about lost it on him. WHen I finally got off the phone, I started crying I was so frustrated!!
