So the other night I was manning the cigarette lane, busy checking out a couple who had come through my line. As I was scanning an older couple walked up and informed me that the cashier on lane 18 told them to come to be to cash a coinstar slip. I was taken aback because honestly, you can cash these at any lane. You just scan it, hit total and then hit cash. It took me a second to look over to 18 and realize that the guy on that lane was a bit new and probably just didn't know how to do it. I told the couple that they could go to the next lane over and get it cashed, seeing as there were no customers there. The old man rolled his eyes and me and sighed as if I had just told him he had to walk all the way back to site to store. Baffled I looked at him wondering if he really expected me to stop in the middle of checking this other couple out and help them. I told him (very sweetly I might add) that if they preferred they could wait till I was finished and I would be glad to help them, at which point the cashier on the next lane cracked up.
Not that big of a deal, but seriously. I understand mild frusteration, but do you really think that your slip for 3$ is so important that I must abort the transaction I'm in the middle of just so you can go to the register the new kid said you should? By all means, don't get out of here speedily by going to an OPEN LANE.
