I think lottos and scratchers sometimes bring out the stupid in people.
Well, considering the fact that unless you hit a big win, lotteries and lottos are a losing proposition. Most of them pay out precisely 50% of the take, meaning that if you don't win big, you're guaranteed to get less than $0.50 for ever $1.00 you put in.
You'd "win" more by putting that money in a jar, and even more if you put it in a savings account.
Potentially dumb question; but, why can't you use cards for scratchers and lotto?
Being a cash only proposition makes it less easy for people with stolen cards to burn through the money.
Although, it never amazes me that people don't think to just get cash back on a transaction and then use that to buy the lotto/lottery stuff. Money orders are mostly a cash only deal these days, and the last time I needed one, I just bought something, used my card, and got enough cash back to cover the money order.
All that, of course, makes the cash only decree completely pointless.

I heard somewhere that if, instead of playing the lotto, from the time you're 18 'till the time you're 65 you take that money and put it in a savings account, you'll have enough to retire on.
My brother looked at it and informed us that one of the places was not Vermont, but something else that started with a V that, with the itsy bitsy type, looked exactly like Vermont.
No $10,000 for us.
I can't remember what the actual property was, but I don't remember it from the regular Monopoly gameboard so I told her to have it checked anyway.
Perhaps "Ventnor Ave". "Vermont Ave." is light blue 6 or 7 spaces (I think) from Go! "Ventnor Ave." is Yellow and 8 spaces from "Free Parking".
I don't know why I know this off the top of my head, I just do.
