I checked in a man and his female guest in last week. He is from a town 15 miles away, so he's considered local. Anyway, the guy pays cash + a $100 deposit (we require a deposit if there is no credit or debit card). I ask for his name, address, and phone number.
Well the guy leaves without checking out at the front desk. He also leaves without picking up his deposit. When that happens, we drop the money in the safe and wait for a day or two to see if the guest claims the money. Considering he is local, we expect him to pop in.
A couple of days pass and the guy doesn't claim his deposit. We call the number he provided at check-in and leave a message. Well, all hell breaks loose after that. Apparently his wife heard the message informing him that he still had a deposit at the hotel and what arrangements can be made to get back his money.
The guy calls the same day and rips the manager a new one. He said we had no right to call his home # and that he is going to sue us because we violated his privacy. Apparently the female guest wasn't his wife.
Moral of this story: Don't cheat. But if you are going to cheat, atleast provide a fake phone number, or a number your spouse doesn't have access to.
Sidenote: How did he forget the $100 deposit he gave us? I guess he was so caught up in cheating, he forgot about it.
