  • We should shoot ourselves in the head...

I work at a call center. Some guy told he made a payment at the check cashing place which usually takes 2-3 days to post to the account. Granted he made the payment on Thursday and his due date was the 22nd which happens to be a weekend and we don't count weekends.

He then didn't want to pay the late fee (which is a whopping 5.00 ). I told him that if the payment doesn't post before the 22nd, the late fee will be
placed. He got all mad and I told him other ways to pay the bill. he then said that
each of us should shoot ourselves in the head Wait, we should shoot ourselves just because you are too stupid to make the payment at a check cashing place instead of making the payment using OUR payment methods. you make the payment 2 days before your due date. dumbass.

    Okay, dude, here's a clue.

You know when your due date is. You go to X to make your payment. Before you actually do so, make sure that the payment will actually go through before your payment is late.

If you learn that it won't go through in time, make other freakin' arrangements.
I'm sorry, the person to whom you were speaking has been replaced by a recording. Please leave your message at the sound of the beep.

Not funny. I mean it is and all that. But at the same time it is not funny.

Personally I think it is fun to get revenge on SC.

At the bare minimum the idiot needs to be reported to management, as in customer is wishing us dead.

The better task would be reporting the conversation to local law enforcement. Might not go anywhere, but "fearing for your life" can cause the local PD to pay the guy a visit to "make him aware of the repercussions of his comments" should something serious happen to you or your co-workers.

I had one SC, maybe 15 or 16, just a young punk that decided that is was permissible for his holiness to park his junker of a used car for sale on my business property.

Important note, I am law enforcement friendly. I am the guy that lets the local PD hide beside my building with their pursuit cars while they have an office standing beside the road with a radar gun in his hand.

It just so happened that I had a couple cruisers parked beside the building out of the sight of the SC.

SC gets up in my face. He can park his junker where ever he pleases. He is got RIGHTS.

Well, one of the PD overhear the conversation and strolls up to input his own comment about the time the SC says

"If you don't let me park here I will come back tonight and burn your building down"

PD comment "Do you really mean that"?

SC turned around to discover that PD had walked up just in time to overhear his comment. SC turned white as a sheet of paper.

PD explained the facts of life. Felony threat of arson. That is 2 years just for making a threat. Ignoring the fact that SC was a juvie, PD just kept pouring it on. If somebody, like a fireman, were to get hurt in the fire then 10 years would be added to the mandatory 5 year prison sentence. And if his (my) nightwatch man where to die in the fire, the DA will automatically seek the death penalty.

SC's knees were quivering. The SC looked like he was ready to puke.

PD was just loving it. Got to be a bully without actually "doing" anything.

      So PD kept going.

" I need your driver's license so I can write your name into my report. And when I get done with my report you will go home and tell your mother what you have done and how you are in trouble with police. That way when I come to arrest you, she won't be surprised"

      SC is

PD Good, now you understand the situation. Go home and make sure you tell your mother that you are "THIS" close to going to jail.

That was about 20 years ago. My building still hasn't been burned down.

Honestly, I wouldn't call that bullying. I call that an appropriate ass-chewing. The punk had it coming, in spades.

Reminds me of when I chewed out these three 14 year old girls (who were at an R rated movie without a parent) ... who talked through the whole movie even after repeated attempts at getting them to shut up (there was no place to move to).

It was five years ago, so I'm probably off a little:

        Me: You three suck.
Girl1: Why are you being so mean?
Me: Because you talked through the whole movie.
Girl2: We have a right to be here, too.
Me: At the movies, one doesn't talk. Just watch so everyone can enjoy.
Girl1: Yes, but you don't have to be mean about it.
Me: Yes, I do. Because you little bitches just wouldn't shut up.
        Girl3: WHAT DID YOU SAY?!?!?!
Me: I said: you little bitches just wouldn't shut the fuck up.
Girl1: You don't have to be so mean about it.
Me: Apparently, I do. You bitches should go home and tell your parents that they're doing a lousy job.

Yea, but there are police forces that list such tatics as threating or abusive.

Personally, I think catch'um early enough and such tatics prevent a kid from becoming a target in a gun battle in an alley in the wee hours of the morning.

I totally agree. Unfortunately, from what I read on here, many managers wouldn't bat an eye at SC's threatening their employees. Indeed, they'd probably find a way to blame the emp for getting the SC worked up enough to make the threat.

            So sad, but true.

Although my management bugs me on occasion, when I read some of these management horror stories on here, I love my bosses a little more each day.

I know for certain that I didn't do anything to provoke him to say that.

We had a lady tell us that she hopes everybody at our bank dies in a flood once. This was because she was denied for a loan.

                  Where at?

As far as I can see the officer was just stating facts...?

                    Whoa-whoa-whoa!!

                    Ok, I obviously mis-spoke.

What I meant was, we see stories about sucky managers around here who allow idiot SC's (like your guy in this story) talk to their employees any way they please. And some of the truly heinous ones take up for the customer AND find a way to blame the employee, even when the SC is acting like a total idiot and/or making threats, etc.

I apologize if my comments offended you, I did not mean it that way at all. Just speaking out about how bad some managers are in cases like this.

Yeah. Put the fear of repercussions in them while they're still young enough for it to sink in and do some good.

Some things make you wish call centers had sound effects that would play only over the phone. So like if a customer says you should kill yourself you could say "you're right! (with a teary "think living's pointless" sort of way), then cue up the gunshot sound and drop the phone.

Then just just let the customer hear dead air (hit the mute).
