I can understand the 'I am unable to leave the house because I am disabled.' I can understand calling 'I am looking for a dress in X size, preferably blue, but if you don't have that please check for green or dark brown.'

I don't understand, 'oh, you found something, well please look in other departments for accessories.'

It would be faster & nicer to the salesclerk to give a short list of options. If the answer to the options is no, then ask the clerk if it's slow enough to keep trying. If it's too busy, call again later.
I'm sorry, the person to whom you were speaking has been replaced by a recording. Please leave your message at the sound of the beep.

My In-laws (they are in their 90s) Often call stores about availability.

OK People Listen Up: They are in their 90s, they do not have internet, they do not have a computer.

You are retail.. They are not being SC. Sorry they inconvenience you.
Way before computers, there were, and still are, catalogs. All you need are a catalog and a phone. Ask poor Gravekeeper.

Also, I worked at Nordstrom and I did do that type of shopping for people, but it didn't work that way. My customers would call in with lists of things. When the time was available, I would do the shopping for them. I could not be expected to drop everything and leave my department empty to go shopping around an entire store for someone on the phone. I would check availability in my department for an item, but if I were helping someone I would not drop them for someone on the phone.

This woman was demanding a level of response that was out of line. Again, either she should come into the store, or she should make up a list and then give the salesperson a few days to get back to her.

Again, I question the needs of someone who is too disabled to come in a store to need a full dress suit with accessories on a regular basis.

Hate to play bad boy, but as an older representative of the retail community...

My In-laws (they are in their 90s) Often call stores about availability.

We then get a call.... "X store has such and such, size x in blue, Could you pick one up for us while you're out?"

OK People Listen Up: They are in their 90s, they do not have internet, they do not have a computer.

They are not trying to screw you, they want to buy from you but they CAN NOT come in and shop.

You are retail.. They are not being SC. Sorry they inconvenience you.
I actually get calls all the time from 'old and/ or disabled' Usually, they are very exact in what they want and don't demand that I run my legs off running all over the store.

Like another poster said "I like blue, but XYZ' would work, also." is proper. Also, as yet another poster pointed out, she is obviously not disabled enough to where a dress suit with full accessories is unneeded. It is obvious that she isn't house bound.

I understand people calling in to see if we have X. I get that all day long, however, I am NOT a personal shopper and I simply can not drop everything to run all over the store or even just my department to help someone on the phone.

We have 2 lines at work, and when I get annoyed with the phone ringing off the hook, I just pick it up, press Line 1, then hold, then Line 2, then hold again. Viola, both lines are now on hold until I decide otherwise.

Horrible of me? Probably. But there are days where I really just don't care.

I honestly cannot complain ( well I can but it would look bad ) about the calls I get for pricing information, being that I work in a funeral home.

However I can complain about this: In the state I live in, you have to be a licensed funeral director in order to give pricing info, sometimes the funeral director I work with is not available, so I let them know he is not available at the moment, but I will call down to one of our other locations and have someone speak to you from there, they will have all the pricing for our home and will be able to answer any questions you might have. There are times when I am asked, why I can't give out the info and I have to say that I am not licensed to give that out, there are some that understand that, there are others who do not and will just start screaming at me that they just want to know the price of a burial. And why I understand this, I am not allowed to give that out, we could get into a bunch of trouble if I did. Le'sigh even after that they still are angry with me.

ETA: Sorry that was meant to be about phone calls, I can hand them our pricing sheet if they come in.

Actually, you're partly right. Asking if they have one or two items isn't sucky. You give a good example of where it wouldn't be sucky to do so.

But the one in the OP asking for a complete outfit? And doing it multiple times when told that the store cannot accomodate their needs in that area? When the op is alone in her department, and is being asked to run to other departments to find out? When exactly do they start being sucky then? If they weren't an SC, they would have found a way to get around it somehow.

She reminds me of that old lady that my co-worker got on the switchboard once while she was filling in for the operator's break. The minute CW picked up the phone & gave the greeting, this old lady started going on & on about this letter she received from so and so, she has not heard from these people in years, blah blah blah.... after about 30 seconds, CW jumped in & asked her if this pertained in anyway to our company. She had no choice but to jump in, there were other calls backing up. There was about 5 seconds of silence, and then the old lady told her that she was not going to waste anymore of her time & hung up.

Sorry, I forgot, Becky. If it makes sense, etc.
Don't feel bad. I forget sometimes, too.
