  • Thomas the train

Hey all! I'm positive no one will recall me. I got an account here back at the end of '01 and shortly after stopped posting for whatever reason. So after about seven years I'm back.

I think this is a good enough post to start out with again. This happened last night as I was labeling clearance items and putting them in the clearance aisle. Out of no where this woman pops up with her twins in a stroller at the end of the aisle and says to me:

    SC: "Thomas the train."
    Me: "Eh, what?"
    SC: "Thomas the train!"
    ME: "Uh...what about him?"
SC: "Where is Thomas the train!?"
Me: "Well what exactly are you looking for?" (seriously Thomas the train what? toy? books? party stuffs?)
SC: "Where is Thomas the train?"
Me: (ok were getting nowhere fast ) "Well what of Thomas the train? A cake pan, toys-
SC: (CUTS ME OFF) "Yes toys! (said as if I was an idiot) All Michael's stores carry wooden Thomas the trains on tracks."
Me: "Um no we don't" (never heard of such a thing, we aren't a toy store)
SC: Puts her had up as if to shut me out and gives a disgusted look before storming off around the corner.

I chuckle mildly and confusedly, but was about to let it go and keep working when I hear her say to her children "She isn't very smart!" I'm thinking, 'scuse me bit*h!? It is on! I went out towards customer service, 'cause I figure that's where she is headed, to warn the FES, but it's to late, she's there. So I stand back to see if she's going to need help. I tell E____, who had just signed off and was no longer in uniform, and was making a purchase, I_____ the crafts manager and S_____ on register. We all watch and sure enough the SC doesn't even wait until the customer ahead of her is finished before shoving her way in and demanding Thomas the train. C______ looks confused and glances our way E____ goes over and explains that we don't carry it, but larger stores such as S_______ and G______ do. SC looks at her and says "I don't don't need to hear from the peanut gallery! I don't want your two cents you don't even work here!" * all around* C_____ and E____ say that yes she does, and SC says "Whatever I'm done!" while shoving her hand up again and pushing her kids out the door. Then laughs were had by all.

Most of all I feel sorry for her kids, who have to deal with her crap, and will grow up believing that this is acceptable behavior for an adult.
wouldn't lube work better in a f***ing machine?

Yes, that’s right. It’s a pair of gold foil headphones. Gold foil. Finally, headphones just as awful as your taste in music.

I feel less sorry for them than I do for the people who'll have to put up with them in the future

Our Michael's carries Thomas toys on wood tracks, it's where I buy my nephew's stuff.

I think I just ran into the cousin of your sc, except it was only one kid. I was just in Target getting a few things on my day off when I heard screaming in the checkout line. Some sour faced lady with a toddler kid was telling the clerk to remove items from her purchase because her kid had stepped over the behavior line and she'd changed her mind about buying the Thomas The Train toys for Brat-Boy. Should have ended there, right? Take screaming trantruming kid from store and go home. Oh no, she and Screamzilla stood in the middle of Target while he screamed even louder and she angrily berated him for being such a bad bad boy and the rest of us eye-fucked her to drag his ass out of the store. He was carrying on at such volume you could hear him clearly all the way to the back. This went on for about ten minutes.

It's great she was trying to hold him to some standard of polite behavior it's not so great she inflicted it on everyone in the damn store.

My son is obsessed with Thomas the Train (he's actually watching it as I type this). Anyway, the Michael's that just opened here carries the Thomas wooden railway line. I was kind of excited when I saw it, because there was a piece they had that I hadn't seen anywhere else.

If I ever run a retail store, official policy will be that if a customer tries to cut off conversation by putting their hand in your face ... you are required to say "BITCH!"

See, it more makes me want to say "Bitch, please" and do the little head-bob. But that might just be me.

Employees are always encouraged to be polite. "Please" is a polite word. So, making it "bitch, please" is simply your attempt at implementing my policies politely.

The local Michaels carries them. In fact, I need to go back into the store.

Lol what is this 'Thomas the Train' you speak of? I work in a toy shop (it's a magical place... toys in their millions :P ) and we sell Thomas the Tank Engine, the same one I remember from my childhood :P

Did it get renamed after going transatlantic or something?

Na, I'm pretty sure he's still called Thomas the Tank Engine. I'd go look at my boys many many toys and movies, but I'm afraid the little one might want to watch one of the coma inducing videos and I need to be conscious today.

Well, don't you know? ALL Michaels, REGARDLESS of size and location carry ALL THE SAME STUFF? And to suggest otherwise is simply...well....insane!

Why if you go to the website, where you can't BUY anything, they have pictures of stuff, and of course that means we HAVE TO HAVE it. I really wish that they would put the "not all locations carry all items listed, you big idiots". No, it just says "all purchases should be made at your local store..." Which reads to SC's like..."All stores have this product in stock".

(Our Location does carry the Thomas stuff. I heart the coupons on Thomas stuff. Not a huge selection, but enough...so that my boys have lots more Thomas crap. )

But what is it about the craft store that makes people randomly bark shit at you? (Okay, retail in general?). "PIPE CLEANERS!" "GLUE STICKS?" "FABRIC?"

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DONT HAVE FABRIC? WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN?"

It's one thing when it's a small obscure item that not many people buy, or if the person is REALLY REALLY new... but once an employee has been there for..a few days--I'm thinking, if the store doesn't carry something like freakin Thomas, then they'd KNOW, huh? lol (Oh, wait, I'm not a customer.) It's not a huge section like the Crayola shit, but it's not something easily missed like a power panel either!

Don't you remember that bit on the application about being psychic? I'm certain we all must have checked it, why else would we have been hired to work with customers?

LOL Sorry, odd fact about me, I'd scared of claymation or things that appear claymation-ish. Thomas kinda gives me the whillies so I try to avoid it and the topic of other related things like the plague. So I have no knowledge of Thomas. I have to cover up the Bob the builder coloring books with other ones if I'm near them. My last job my boss had a Gumby in her office scared the crap outta me! I had to cover it up just to work.

Didn't see that part, sure does come up a lot though.

As for the SC of topic, I had hoped that she would maybe calm down and realize what a miserable c*&$ she was being when she got home. No such luck, apparently she called in on tuesday and bit*hed that we are incompetent and that we don't even know what we sell, and that my manager should be fired.
