So I'm standing in the furniture department, talking to my friend, when this guy comes up and asks us if we have any of the grills that went on sale that day. Through dumb luck, I happen to know offhand that no, we do not. I tell him as much and say he can't have the display, because we don't sell those. He gets all pissed and says something along the lines that it's stupid to not have the product the day the ad hit. Which I, of course, agree with, but it's not my fault. Whatever, he walks away.

A little bit later, I see some of the guys from up front in Service loading this grill up. Here's what happened. After talking to us, he went up front, complained that we didn't help him, lied about us saying rude things, and threw a fit. Of course, management gave him the display.

My boss comes up to us a few minutes later and asks us if we said these rude things to this guy. (Something like, "No, we don't have it," followed by us turning and walking away, which didn't happen.) She believes us that the guy's lying.

Anywho, the one thing that pisses me off the most is that this guy's terrible behavior was reinforced. He acted like a complete dick and got everything he wanted. So from now on, he'll keep acting like that when things don't go his way. That's the American society for you.
Excuse me, good sir paladin, can you direct me to your EVIL district?

Man, you think the manager might have, I don't know, at least asked you first? I mean, if he thinks the guy is lying, why treat him as a 'valued customer' when he's very obviously a PoS?

Ah yes, I get those same display idiots by me. Our policy on displays is we do not sell them unless the item is on clearance or being discontinued and the display is the last of that item left.

Except for baby furniture, which according to state law we are not allowed to sell.

When then grill arrives back in your store, you now get to waste valuable payroll to have somebody assemble a new display.

Managers getting the employee's side first? Nah, surely not.

And thanks; I always enjoy it when people like the comic. Newspapers are a thing of the past, though. Or soon will be. More to the point, it costs virtually nothing to create and maintain a webcomic. We'll put out books when we get enough to do so, though.

Ah yes, sell the last F******* unit left in the store.

Stop demo-ing the unit. Stop accepting backorders. Yep, real smart.

And then waste time (aka $$$) to assemble a new floor display. How smart

Here lately I have been stripping down the floor model, taking out the working guts just so I can say the floor model is strictly a demo to show spatial relationships.

I got the idea from OD that had furniture displays that were not fully functional (filing cabinets with only 1 working drawer unit.... hey, seen one drawer, seen them all).

I usually ask a manager for a display model when its the last one left.
Its not like its a bad thing to ask? But I understand if it isn't available for purchase.

That guy was very rude and getting your way by making up lies is disgusting. Karma will get him!

Yeah, well, the display model thing is kinda problematic. Recently I went to buy a new computer monitor and I went into the office supply store, the nearby huge chain, walked in, picked out the sale model and went to buy it. The gum popping ennuii-laden twenty something behind the counter tells me a) they are out of stock and b) pick another one. I pick three more to be told three more times they are out of stock and since they are model discontinues that there will be no more coming in. You'd think they would have told me that the first time instead of letting me schlep back and forth fifty times between the section and customer service. Started to go into slow boil mode and go off SC style on the clerk only have the manager stroll up and offer me a big discount to take the display model of the one I wanted in the first freaking place!!!

I hate folks that deliberately try to screw with by being super unhelpful.

(PS I have a friend from Store2 who used to come up to me and ask "Do you work here?"; I do the same to him...I sent him the first strip cuz I'm sure he'll appreciate it greatly!)

Well, I'm thrilled beyond belief now. Very glad that you like the comic. I feel the title/first comic really capture the whole of the retail life.

I used to try and catch my friend unaware when I came to visit him in his store. I'd walk up behind him and say, "Excuse me, sir?"

He'd turn around, see it was me, get mad, and always tell me, "Damn it! Don't do that!"
