OK, new "I don't work here" story.
A few days ago, I was walking downtown at around 8:00 in the morning. Ahead of me, I noticed some guy who was inordinately concerned about getting into a certain store. He would pound on the door, then grab the door handle and shake it vigorously, then shade his eyes and peer into the dark store. Then he would start over, in true "lather, rinse, repeat" style.
He went through the whole cycle about 3 or 4 times by the time I walked by him. Then, to my surprise, as I was passing by he turned on me and started yelling at me.
Him: Why isn't this damn store open?
Me: Uh, I don't know.
Him: It's eight o'clock! They're supposed to be open! Where are they?
Me: Once again, sir, I don't know.
Him: Oh, you're no help at all!
Me: You realize, don't you, that I don't work here? Not only that, but I've never even been in this store, I don't even know what they sell. Exactly what kind of help were you expecting from me?
Maybe he thought that if he kept yelling at random passeresby, eventually one of them would be the right one.
