Yeah - maybe - even so, the possibility of transferance of bodily fluids is still there, and hence the chance of infection.
good point. i was in nursing school for a while (well over 10 years ago) and one of my classmates had to use those. the school gave her a personal red Sharpes box to dispose of her needles properly.

granted it could have been a non-needle use ... i also knew a guy who was given a hypo (no needle) to squirt stuff on his feet (athlete's foot stuff), but...eh, why risk yourself

Could have been a simple Insulin syringe.
Most brands of insulin syringes have needles that are not removable. The ones we use in our hospital are the same brand you can purchase out in the public world. I vote for hobby type syringe.

Well, it could have been an insulin syringe.

My ex is diabetic, and after use, he would use the cap to break the needle off the syringes he used so they couldn't be reused by anyone. He wasn't always the best about getting the caps back on tightly, so sometimes the caps would fall off, with the needle tips inside them. He was also always leaving them lying about when at home because he had never been trained to clean up after himself.

when people have to give liquid meds to children or pets (yes pet prescriptions can be filled at regular pharmacies for some meds) They will give you the dispenser that looks like a syringe with just an opening where you normally would find a needle.
These are called oral syringes, and we have used them for oral meds for babies. We would get them free from the pharmacy, but once the pharmacy worker kept insisting we needed a RX for them (she was confusing them with the syringes with needles).

My coworker went outside to change the drive-thru garbage the other day.

It was overflowing b/c the morning workers are lazy, but that's for another post. :P

The bag had spilled over into the actual can, leaving a few inches of nasty coffee remains. She reached down to grab a pop can and nearly stuck herself on a syringe--complete with the needle. She just about freaked out, as I would have too.

And to think I believed my town was a nice one...

Just a note, but sometimes people who need syringes for medical purposes are pigs, just like people who leave diapers in shopping carts. Finding a used syringe disposed of improperly is mostly meaningless as regards how "nice" your town is or isn't.

Well, if you find a whole bunch dumped in an alley with no attempt to throw them away and maybe some bits of rubber tubing or other sorts of tie off materials.... that's another matter.

I've seen those...but I don't use them. Something about accidentally injecting myself with locomotive oil bothers me
You never know, it could be good for you. Whatever else happens, you'll get a good head of steam.
