they kept trying to get him to apply to the department but he had his heart set on being a shcoolteacher).
Good on him. I work in an FE college, and I truly believe that a lot of the behaviour problems we have could be solved be employing more male teachers. Most of our ESOL students are adults, but we have some young ones who are required to be in full-time education, and they're a nightmare. All three classes where we have problems are taught by nice, friendly women (who get great results with their other students), and they just don't get any respect from these students at all. I wonder how much lip they'd want to give Arnold?
God made me a cannibal to fix problems like you. - Angelspit, '100%'
personally the only time (ONLY!!!!) police should ever be violent is when needed for ther own safety, but the few storys here show sometimes it is necessary.
Yes you have a susbect weilding a possibly dangerouse weapon (ps im thinking of coming a cop if i can get my weight down or a social worker) and running through a highly populated area yes the police will need to use force and continue to do so as long as they are compatiant.
If a susbect is resisting in way or manner, yes force will be needed.
Personally i think they guy lucked out in the first story without worst happening.
A couple of shoplifting karma stories.
One was a guy who stole something so a staff member gave chase. At full run he went to go into a shop on the other side of the carpark. Only trouble was - their automatic doors didn't work fast enough for someone at full run. Stoopid Shoplifter ran headfirst into the still-closed doors, and knocked himself out cold. By the time he came too, the first face he saw was the arresting policeman.
Another guy stole some stuff and when the door alarm sounded made a dash. One of our guys, L, gave chase. The funny thing here is that L was only about 5' and 80lb - hardly threatening. Shoplifter took a running leap over the retaining wall at the edge of the carpark, a height of about 15 feet. L said the sound when SS landed was sickening. SS broke both his legs in multiple places. The police told us that SS was wanted on numerous charges but always managed to evade them - not this time!!
For quite some time after that, whenever we detained a shoplifter we'd tell them that the last one we caught ended up with both his legs broken. Some of them wouldn't believe it, until the police came in and told them they were lucky they didn't have their legs broken. Some of the looks were absolutely priceless!!

Wait, was that somewhat recent, and in the news? I remember reading a news article on just that thing. Let me dredge it up....
*searches through her news archives*
Darnit... I can't find the article.

It was about 3-4 years ago. Very much doubt it would have made your news, as it was in Australia
I get weird news from all over the world, actually.
But the story I'm talking about was somewhat recent, and it was some guy that was running (drug bust, I think) and hopped over a parking structure wall, not knowing that the other side was a lot farther down than he'd thought. Broke both legs.

You read it right here on this forum, last month. See reply #4.
Could be. I could swear it was an actual news article, though. *shrug*
